18th July 2011

Nothing at all for me today. We have 3 friendlies in the football, one which looks obvious ( QPR v Tavistock) but which has no money, one featuring Singapore v Chinese Taipei but there is no form research I can do, and Man City v Vancouver. Expectation for the win, but shot across the bough with Arsenal drawing Chinese no hopers 1-1 in a recent friendlies. Friendlies are PR exercises , nothing more.
Horse racing wise, and you can tell it's a bad day when I shortlist maidens in Ireland. Both races are distinct in that they feature 2 horses priced to dominate. But any involvement will assume both place. Giants Quest perhaps would be my call in the 550 Ballinrobe based on bumper form and jockey booking, but with 2 places only , and a near rival ( and the rain lashing down), it might not be that straightforward.

No bet at all for me today, and I must remember that better days are just around the corner ( sometimes offering a huge amount of betting opportunities).

2-0 to Copenhagen

1230pm - Singapore v Chinese Taipei - 1.29 home - no head to heads it seems. This friendly is being played in Singapore which puts the advantage to the home side. No real collateral form either for these 2.

7pm - Tavistock v QPR - 1.16 QPR - not in play - this looks like a quickly crowbarred in friendly before matches against Plymouth and Bodmin Town. A 1-0 win over Harrow Borough perhaps exemplifies QPR's attitude to friendlies. Should be an easy win but I cannot find any info on Tavistock as this is a quickly arranged friendly.

3am - Vancouver Whitecaps v Man City - 1.36 away - Vancouver have lost their last 5 and won only 1 of their last 11. City beat Club America 2-0 , it says yesterday!! No Tevez or major South American stars and remember only a friendly but premier league teams in America have been winning.

550 BALLINROBE
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Clarach, 13/8 Giant´s Quest, 6/1 Foildearg, 7/1 Oscar Wings, 12/1 Moymore Lad, 25/1 Munster Fusilier, 33/1 Wild And Innocent.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: GIANT'S QUEST (nap) looks pretty bullet-proof under the track's leading jockey and can get the better of Clarach. It is hard to see the others getting involved, though an easing of conditions might change that. [Johnny Ward]

Giant's Quest has no form in the form column BUT has had 4 bumper runs and won last time out. Interesting in this maiden. I would have dismissed him as a newcomer but he is far from that.

720 BALLINROBE
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Black Belt, 15/8 Charpoy, 7/1 Prince Of Dubai, 8/1 Ayanna, 8/1 Hisaabaat, 14/1 Glacial, 16/1 Gabh Mo Leithsceal, 33/1 Go Babie Go, 50/1 Shellin Star, 66/1 Hi Kort Lady, 66/1 J´amour Dance, 66/1 Mister Boss.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: This looks between CHARPOY and Black Belt, with marginal preference for the Ken Condon-trained runner. [Johnny Ward]

5 under 20/1 currently ( remember racetime) - 2 to dominate?

515 YARMOUTH
BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 Royal Defence, 9/2 Far Flung, 5/1 Colinca´s Lad, 6/1 Dragon Slayer, 10/1 Sanctum, 11/1 Market Puzzle, 16/1 Saloon.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: CANE CAT has been in very good form of late, including when a winner here in May and may be the answer, ahead of the 2009 winner of this Dragon Slayer.[Mel Cullinan]

Now 6 runners, but still 3 places on betfair?

SHORTLIST

1230pm - Singapore v Chinese Taipei - 1.29 home - the inference is that Singapore league is stronger than a smaller principality. Go with the odds?

7pm - Tavistock v QPR - 1.16 QPR - as with the match against Harrow Borough, Betfairians are showing absolutely no interest in QPR friendlies. There is tuppence available at 1.16 which is not a realistic price. Lack of liquidity currently and best looked at nearer to 7pm.

3am - Vancouver Whitecaps v Man City - 1.36 away - friendlies are what they are. Arsenal versus Feck-knows -who drew 1-1 with a first team out. There is no need to win friendlies . That is the dampener to this bet.

550 BALLINROBE - 11/8 - - - 13/8 - - - -6/1 and the front 2 are being touted as maidens. Well Clarach has had 17 outings and Giants Quest has had 4 ( form of 2-2-12-1 in bumpers) .Will they dominate?
I like Smullen which is probably why I would be tempted by Giant's Quest.

720 BALLINROBE - 5 under 20/1 and BlackBelt and Charopy are as per 550 - 6/4 - - -7/4 - - - 11/2 -expected to dominate. My experience tells me that quite often one of the 2 will falter. - but which one?

515 YARMOUTH - the only other race I could salvage and only because this now becomes a 6 horse race for 3 places. A very tricky 1 mile 2 handicap where the market indicates a tight race. One perceived outsider at 16/1 should reduce the field to 5 runners for 3 places.
Currently the favourite is Far Fling at 9/4 but the betting suggests a tight race - 9/4 - - 7/2 - - 5/1 - - 11/2 - - 13/2 - - 16/1

look at the 5/1, 11/2, 13/2 - to be honest there is no real difference in the odds.
