1st December 2012

1245pm - West Ham v Chelsea - 2.1 away - 2nd London derby on the trot. Chelsea have not scored since Rafa has been at the helm. Not really fair to judge him on 2 matches though. West Ham impressed against United where they usually ship 3 goals.

Just as with UNited last week, West Ham have conceded 3+ regularly against Chelsea, but will West Ham prove as resilient today?
LEAGUE POSITION - 10th v 3rd - Chelsea are way off the pace.  West Ham can consolidate their top 10 position with a win.

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - WEst Ham

RECENT HOME FORM - WWDLWDD - only 1 loss at home was another London derby and a 1-3 loss to Arsenal.0-0 at home to Man City could be within Hammers grasp today.

RECENT FORM OVERALL - WLWDDWLWLDWDLL - inconsistent is a word I use to describe West Ham each week. Away defeats against Spurs and Man Utd. How will they fare against another top club. Only 1 win in last 6 for West Ham. Against top 9, are yet to win, with 4 defeats and 2 draws

GOAL TRENDS - 43% overs at home. 0.86 conceded at home.  Have failed to score in only 4.

STREAKS - 3 at home without defeat.

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Chelsea-Sturridge, Fat Frank and Terry are out for Chelsea. They might have a chance if Ladyboy Torres was out too.  We have new manager syndrome.

RECENT AWAY FORM - WDWWDL - recent loss was a 1-2 against West Brom. Defeats against top 4 home and away.

RECENT OVERALL FORM - WWWDWWWWLDDLDD - no win in 6 - this will end. Under rafa it's 2 0-0 home performances. This is the first away. Caution again?

GOAL TRENDS - 50/50 overs unders for Chelsea away.

STREAKS - have scored and conceded in last 4 away matches.

CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - a London derby, and Rafa's first away match makes this a tough match to predict. The form of the Hammers against better sides is poor. In head to heads they have scored 3-3-4. West Ham are inconsistent. They have failed to score in only 4 this season and might do so again. Only 1 win in last 6 for Hammers so they might be vulnerable - their only loss was another London derby against Arsenal. Chelsea must end their winless sequence eventually. 2 consecutive 0-0 scorelines must end as well . I foresee a tight match with West Ham vulnerability and a possible Chelsea goal to end the drought.

3pm - Arsenal v Swansea - 1.52 home
LEAGUE POSITION - 7th v 8th - tighter than the odds suggesst?
HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team  -Arsenal
RECENT HOME FORM - DWLWDW - only one defeat at home was against Chelsea. Arsenal are really capable of scoring a few but have been sporadic.
RECENT FORM OVERALL -DDWWDLWLWLDWDD - 2 of last 3 defeats away from home.3 draws in last 4.

GOAL TRENDS - 67% overs at home. Score 2.67 on average. Very strong goalscoring in last 1/4 hr of 1st half home matches
STREAKS - n0 defeat on 4 overall and 3 at home. Have scored in last 5 at home

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Swansea

RECENT AWAY FORM - WLLLDW - all defeats without scoring . Lost 1-0 to City so that could be a template for today.
RECENT OVERALL FORM -WWDLLLDWLDDWDW - only 1 defeat in 8 matches was a 1-0 v City/. Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea could not beat the Swans and they even beat in form West Brom convincingly. Not to be underestimated.

GOAL TRENDS - 33% overs away - adept at defence away.BUT have only kept 3 clean sheets all season.HAve only scored one goal in the first half away which suggests that Arsenal may score first. Very much a 2nd half side./
STREAKS -have conceded in the last 5 away

CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - Arsenal in some form at the mo and are capable of really scoring but we simply don't know when. REmember Arsenal have champions league match to come which may leave the likes of Walcott on the bench and for me they lack penetration when he is not in the side. Giroud threatens to let loose but needs plenty of chances to get a goal. Swans for me are in excellent form and have only lost one in last 8 and that was against City. BUT glaringly they have only kept 3 clean sheets this season and have scored only 1 in the first half away. A feeling that the Arsenal might score first. I would favour a positive Swans 2nd half performance and perhaps we can create value by waiting until 2nd half. 1.52 looks a bit low but the only way we could get a good trade would be for the Swans to score first
3pm - Fulham v Tottenham - 2.56 away - another London derby
LEAGUE POSITION - 11th v 5th. Sounds impressive 5th but Spuds are 10 points from top.

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Fulham

RECENT HOME FORM - WWLWDL - only lost to City and Sunderland. I would not take the latter seriously as a sending off spoilt their chances
Wins have all come care of clean sheets  - can they keep Spurs out in this London derby
RECENT FORM OVERALL - WLLWWLDWDDDLLD - only 1 win in 9 sounds bad , 5 draws, 4 of which were 2-2 or 3-3. Recent 0-0 v Chelsea could be a template for today .HAve lost to 1st and 2nd, drawn 3rd and lost to 4th against top 5 this season. Mixed bag.
GOAL TRENDS - 83% overs at home down to scoring and conceding/.Have only failed to score in 3 this season, 2 of them in last 2 matches. This must change at some stage.
STREAKS -have scored in the last 6 at home - good news for that 2 match streak without scoring

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Spurs
RECENT AWAY FORM -LWWWLL - no draw away. Lost to City, Arsenal and Newcastle. Beat UNited under extenuating circumstances. Only other wins came against 2 of the bottom 3 sides.
RECENT OVERALL FORM - LDDWWWWLWLLLWW - 3 of 4 defeats recently have come against top sides like Chelsea, City and Arsenal, oh and Wigan.
GOAL TRENDS - 100% overs away scoring and conceding in every match away - only 1 clean sheet and only failed to score in 1 this season in all matches - 9 overs in last 11
STREAKS - 11 without a draw - have scored and conceded away in last 6. Have conceded in last 7 overall
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - Fulham have a 2 match streak without scoring to end today and they have so far scored in all home matches this season, and face a Spurs side who have scored and conceded in all away matches this season, and avoided a draw , and Fulham have only had the one draw.  Spurs defeats tend to come largely against the top sides and Fulham are not one of those.  Over 2.5 goals looks nailed on if we go purely by the form. The odds tell you, with a 2.56 fav that this is the best team on the day's match. We should see both score if Fulham's 2 matches without a goal is not terminal

3pm - Liverpool v Southampton - 1.44 home - last time Liverpool were at home and this price was against Wigan and it took until the 2nd half for them to comfortably win.
HEAD TO HEADS
Last head to head 2005 so irrelevant.

LEAGUE POSITION - 12th v 18th a possible break into the top 10 for Ted and the boys with a win.
HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Liverpool -have Udinese away on the 6th December.
RECENT HOME FORM - DLLDWDW - defeats at home v United and Arsenal.Beat 19th 1-0 at home. Unbeaten in 4 at home.
RECENT FORM OVERALL - LDLDLWDWDDDWDL - recent defeat was away to Spurs 2-1. Prior to that Liverpool were unbeaten in 8 matches.
GOAL TRENDS - 43% overs at home Concede an average 1 per match. Liverpool have not conceded in the first 1/2 hour at home. Suarez has scored 4 at home so is key.
STREAKS - 4 at home without defeat. Have scored in last 3 at home.
AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Saints - their catchphrase " we don't do goalless"
RECENT AWAY FORM - LLLLLW - sole win away was against QPR.Have lost to all of the top 10 -Liverpool are in 12th. 3-2-3-6-4 conceded.
RECENT OVERALL FORM - LLLLWLDLLLDWWD - unbeaten sequence at present for Saints. No win home and away against top 13.
GOAL TRENDS - 83% overs away from home down to all of those concessions away and only one clean sheet this season. Have failed to score in only 2. I have tried to be cheeky last 2 weeks and waited for a 0-0 at half  time, but Saints spoiled that with 33rd and 34th minute goals.
STREAKS - 6 away without a draw. Have conceded in last 6 away
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - first thing for me is the Liverpool v Wigan performance. Same odds, 0-0 halftime and Liverpool pushed on 2nd half. Liverpool were clearly dominant. Pay attention to the team news although Ted Rodgers might not prioritise the Europa League. Goofy Racist Suarez is superb and that, along with Raheem Sterling, could lead to Saints conceding 2+ again. Let's face it, with Saints failing to score in only 2 this season and keeping only 1 clean sheet , if Liverpool are to win, they have to score 2 minimum. Overs and Saints seems a perfect marriage. What to make of 4 unbeaten for Saints? 3 of the matches were at home.
3pm - Man City v Everton - 1.57 home
Everton won both 2010 encounters at City but went out 2-0 at City last time. They do, though, have nothing to fear, winning 5 of the last 6 encounters. Remind me, why are City 1.57 based on this?

LEAGUE POSITION - 2nd v 6th - must win with United facing an apparent simple task.
HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - City.An away match against Dortmund on the 4th December and it seems a hopeless task that City can go through.
RECENT HOME FORM - WWDWWWW - unbeaten at home. Draw against Arsenal. Only 1 match at home to top 6 was a 2-1 win over Spurs. Top 8 home matches have been tight 2-1 win, 1-1, and 1-0 win. And with Everton's history this is likely to be tight again.
RECENT FORM OVERALL - WDWDDWWWWDWWDW  - 4 of 5 draws away from home. Last 2 draws were 0-0 away from home.
GOAL TRENDS - City have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 6 matches. City have failed to score in only 2 matches.71% overs at home. 2.57 scored at home and 0.71 conceded on average at home.City have scored in all home matches this season. City are very strong goal scorers in the last 1/2 hour.
STREAKS - no defeat in 7 at home. Have scored in last 7 at home. No defeat in 14.
AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Everton.
RECENT AWAY FORM - WLWDDDL - no win in 4 away. Have only played 1 of the top 7 away and lost 2-0 to West Brom. The other defeat was against reading lately.
RECENT OVERALL FORM - WWLDWWDDDDWLDD - 7draws have all been score draws which tells you that Everton are defensively vulnerable.  Only 2 defeats this season have been away from home. It is the draws that are killing Everton's more loftier hopes.
GOAL TRENDS - 71% overs away from home. Are far stronger goalscorers in the first half. Fellaini is the top goalscorer away. Only 1 match this season has had less than 2 goals. Over 1.5 goals betting looks a good thing with Everton scoring and conceding .
STREAKS - have scored in last 5 away and conceded in last 4 away. Have scored in last 11 overall and conceded in last 9 overall.
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - with Everton the score draw is ever present and with their head to head record, and City's unbeaten run, a score draw at some stage in the match is a possibility. Both sides have 71% overs and a suggestion that both teams can score .

3pm - QPR v Aston Villa - 2.06 home
LEAGUE POSITION -20th v 17th - Villa will really move up with a win, QPR will still be bottom/.

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team  -QPR - soccerway relates that Zamora and Johnson are absent so where will the goals come from. Remember too that they have new management
RECENT HOME FORM - LDLDDL - lost to 8th, 10th and 18th. Lost at home to 3rd bottom, drawn with 2nd bottom . QPR have scored in their last 4 matches
RECENT FORM OVERALL - LDLDLLLDLDLLLD - no win yet and scoring in last 4 homes at least gives them some foundation . All bar 4 matches this season have been against top 10 sides.
GOAL TRENDS - have only scored 1 in the first half at home, conceding 7.50/50 overs/unders at home averaging 2 conceded and 0.67 scored QPR are yet to lead in the first half at home - only 2 clean sheets all season, one with Harry in last match. This I suspect will be his first goal today
STREAKS - 6 at home without a win, 14 overall  - have scored and conceded in last 4 at home

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team -Villa - if Bent's left out again, QPR would welcome that
RECENT AWAY FORM - LDLLLWL - only 1 draw away and only 1 win away , a 0-1 v Sunderland
RECENT OVERALL FORM - LLDWLDLLDWLLDW - only 3 wins this season have all come care of clean sheets, 2 of them 1-0 were against 16th and 19th
GOAL TRENDS - Villa have conceded 12 in the 2nd half away 28.6% overs away from home though testament to scoring only 0.43 on average and conceding 2 on average away. 2 clean sheets on the trot though a sign of a tightening in defence?
STREAKS - 5 away without a draw
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - quite clearly QPR will not continue losing and Harry's 0-0 v Sunderland might be repeated here 1st half against a Villa side who have 2 consecutive clean sheets and have scored only 0.43 on average away. QPR have only scored 1 in the first half at home. 0-0 half time I hope and a goal 2nd half ( Villa have conceded 12 2md half away).  2.06 home might fall into the category of tight match, possible 1-1 and possible 1 goal in it win.

3pm - West Brom v Stoke - 2.12 home
ืืืิิิิ้้้้
tight head to heads most recently. Remember that WEst Brom have a new manager too so those 2009 and 2010 matches must be considered in that context

LEAGUE POSITION - 4th v 9th
HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - West Brom
RECENT HOME FORM - WWWWLWW - only City have been able to beat Baggies at home and that was care of an 80th and 90th minute goal  - 4 wins have come without conceding
RECENT FORM OVERALL - WDWLWDWLLWWWWL - 3 defeats have come away from home
GOAL TRENDS - 57% overs at home 2 scored at home on average Have scored in all home matches
STREAKS - 2 match home winning streak. 7 at home without a draw - have scored in last 7 at home

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Stoke
RECENT AWAY FORM - DDLDLLD - no win away just yet 2 defeats 1-0 v Chelsea and Norwich and the other loss v City. Takes a team putting in some performance to beat Stoke./ Lost to 1st and 3rd so far this season away and general trend is strongly for unders even if both sides score as they have in 4 matches
RECENT OVERALL FORM - DDDDLWDLDLWDWW - unbeaten in 4 , 3 of them at home though
GOAL TRENDS - 29% overs away from homeStoke have only scored 2 2nd half so if they don't get a goal by halftime they might be opposable 2nd half
STREAKS - 7 away without a win
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - Baggies having a cracking season and home form is superb. Only beaten by City and likely to be hard to beat again. The odds suggest a typical frustrating performance from Stoke today who are unbeaten in 4 now but have not won away yet. They tend to get beaten by top teams. Too close to call this one as the odds suggest. The stoke defensive reputation v the Baggies scoring at home. Not all researched matches are clear cut alas!
3pm - Celtic v Arbroath - 1.1 home
Scottish Cup match. Premier League v 2nd division. As you will have read from last week's research, in the league Celtic have been far stronger away from home. Celtic have not won their last 2 home matches.  A run of 8 wins for Celtic in the Cup ended in April with a 1-2 loss at home to hearts. 5 clean sheets prior to that defeat. Again potential vulnerability at home in the Cup, 0-1 loss to Aberdeen followed by 2 2-1 wins, a 0-2 loss, 1-0 win and a 1-2 loss. Noticeable at home by the absence of a draw.
Arbroath have scored and conceded in the last 5 in all competitions. January 2012 saw a 4-0 defeat to Rangers which is what Celtic should be capable of at 1.1 at home.

530pm - Reading v Man Utd - 1.47 away - Reading mugged Everton at home care of a penalty and will need that kind of luck today.
HEAD TO HEADS
no recent head to heads of relevance.

LEAGUE POSITION - 19th v 1st - a must win for United as City are only a point behind. All must wins for Reading as they are in the mire.
HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Reading
RECENT HOME FORM - DLDDDW - they were heading for defeat against Everton latest, conceding first then winning care of a penalty. Yet to play top 4 at home but lost 1-3 to 5th placed Spuds. All draws v 9th to 14th inclusive.
RECENT FORM OVERALL - DLLLDDLDDDWLL - last 2 matches defeats away. Lost 4-2 away to Chelsea and that, along with the Spurs defeat, could be the templates for today. Have lost all against top 5 so far home and away.
GOAL TRENDS - 67% overs at home, have conceded 16 in the last half hour all season. Have scored 5 in the last 1/4 hour at home.
STREAKS  - 4 at home without defeat.
AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Manchester United - United have a home encounter against Cluj in 4 days time. Note they have lost their last 2 pre -Champions League matches. Team news therefore is vital.
RECENT AWAY FORM - LWWWWWL - wins sandwiched between 2 1-0 defeats.
RECENT OVERALL FORM - LWWWWLWWWWWLWW - superb form. Recent win though at home was a 1-0 v West Ham, a team they usually score 3+ against. Is this a sign for Reading that an ultra defensive set up will pay dividends pre -Champions League?
GOAL TRENDS - 71% overs away from home. 79% overs overall. Average 2 scored away. United have kept a clean sheet in only 2 this season, and failed to score in only 2. Avoiding draws means they lose when they fail to score.
STREAKS - 7 away without a draw, 14 overall.
CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - it must be said right off the bat that this is a Pre champions League match  United are through with ease so that may ensure a strong side today. A team who love draws at home are playing a side who avoid draws like the plague. Goal trends are congruous so expectation is for overs. Team news key for me. Likely this could have a template of a tight early exchange  and as with Chelsea and Spurs, Reading could concede 3+ goals.
