5/6

No bet day for me today. I suspect that Limerick will beat Sacred Heart easily ( although Limerick have not scored more than 1 goal in their last 4 matches) but the market is totally illiquid ( although no problem getting bets on with bookies) The horse racing is totally uninspiring and, living very near Listowel and knowing the racing there, there are usually a few surprises in results. Dundalk have scored 3 in last 2 meetings with Galway - Ladbrokes have them at 1.16 instead of the 1.23 available on Betfair, but faith in another trouncing? I am not so sure. BRay should beat Youghal with ease but again , in the league, Bray have trouble scoring and winning.

*****ONE A DAY - no bet***** I wanted to get back into it straight away. I suspect the Irish Cup bets will go as per the odds, although when you look at teams like Limerick and Bray, they have been very sparce with their goalscoring of late and could easily slip up today.

Bitterly disappointed yesterday. I thought England had turned a corner and the 3-1 was a good yardstick. The Swiss would not have scored had england not been on holiday mode, and Darren Bent would score normally from that distance with an open goal. I should have gone for probability over patriotism as Adlington easily placed in a 3 horse race at a reasonable price.

3pm - Dundalk v Galway Utd - 1.23 home - Irish Cup and Dundalk have scored 3 twice against Galway in the League. I don't normally like Cup matches with teams from the same league.

3pm - Youghal Utd v Bray - 1.28 away - Youghal are not in the top flight.

330pm - Sacred Heart v Limerick - 1.3 away - Limerick are top flight, and although they have won 3 matches recently 1-0 and drawn 0-0 they are expected to win this Cup match against a non league side.

1am - Mexico v El Salvador - 1.2 home - CONCACAF GOLD CUP so I am not sure how seriously the teams will take this match, or whether MExico will have the first team playing. 4-1 in head to heads most recently signals the odds are about right. El Salvador only beat Haiti 1-0 recently at home, which perhaps reflects their status.

235 LISTOWEL

BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 President Lincoln, 9/2 Jouster, 6/1 Master Melody, 6/1 Red Army Blues, 6/1 Shazamour, 8/1 Kate Greenaway, 8/1 Liberty´s Gift, 10/1 Dazzle Them, 10/1 Mcmonagle, 14/1 Whitethorne Scent, 20/1 Bear Isle, 20/1Hawkswood, 33/1 Arakanajojo, 33/1 Give Me Shelter, 50/1 Flash Bye, 50/1 Ryguhl.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: PRESIDENT LINCOLN has come close to getting off the mark in handicaps this season and Aidan O'Brien's $775,000 Keenland yearling purchase has solid claims from his favourable low draw with blinkers fitted again. Any market support for newcomer Shazamour would be interesting but Jouster, Master Melody and Red Army Bluescould well emerge as the main dangers. [Brian Fleming]

from Epsom to Listowel for Joseph O'Brien. President Lincoln must have a good place only chance as long as traffic is no concern ( 19 runners)

405 LISTOWEL

BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Pires, 7/4 Run For Sol, 8/1 Alamanda, 10/1 Banyan Tree, 12/1 The Last Don, 14/1 Hans Crescent, 16/1 Satwa King, 25/1 King´s Road, 33/1 Utrillo´s Art, 33/1 Waterloo Sunrise.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: A likely match between PIRES and Run For Sol with preference for the former's stronger form claims even though the distance may suit the latter. Alamanda looks next best. [Alan Hewison]

5 under 20/1 the ones to focus on for the places? Run for Sol currently evens.

540 LISTOWEL

BETTING FORECAST: 4/9 House Rules, 6/1 Khayar, 8/1 Back In A Tic, 10/1 Highland Brave, 20/1 Cara Court, 20/1Daydah, 20/1 Screen Diva, 33/1 Bailey Street, 33/1 Future Earner, 33/1 Maharaja, 33/1 Theboyschoice.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: HOUSE RULES is difficult to oppose despite his defeat when a warm favourite at Punchestown last month and Henry de Bromhead's Gowran bumper winner last October should prove up to the task this time with the 103-rated Khayar looking the obvious threat. [Brian Fleming]

3 under 12/1 and Khayar the value each way play but House Rules should place under Ruby.

230 PERTH

BETTING FORECAST: 2/5 Priors Gold, 11/2 Tap Night, 8/1 Think Green, 14/1 Ford Of Wells, 25/1 Pagan Flight, 25/1Solway Pete.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: PRIORS GOLD needed some persuading and straightening out before he jumped the last two flights on his way to victory last time, but he is the only realistic option in terms of recent form. Tap Night is feared most, if only because he has not yet shown what he can do on a racecourse.[Richard Austen]

3 under 28/1 and again ready each way alternatives instead of the obvious Priors Gold.

SHORTLIST

3pm - Dundalk v Galway Utd - 1.23 home - no sign of an end to Galway troubles as they meet a team who have scored 3 twice in last 2 meetings .

3pm - Youghal Utd v Bray - 1.28 away - again a huge mismatch

330pm - Sacred Heart v Limerick - 1.3 away - Limerick should surely have too much here, although I cannot properly research the match. totally illiquid market.

1am - Mexico v El Salvador - 1.2 home - on all known form this should be a comfortable win for Mexico. Again no proper research as we don't know if they are sending a first team to this " Gold Cup"

405 LISTOWEL - Run for Sol -no obstacles in this race - around 1.28 to place *( although take Betfair SP as it is very illiquid)

So it's a matter of faith largely in the Irish cup today
