Europa League the only football we have this evening and I am not getting involved.
BETTING FORECAST: 6/5 Ektibaas, 9/2 Striking The Wind, 5/1 Flodden, 6/1 Prime Mover, 6/1 Red Copper, 20/1 Al Raqi, 33/1American Lover, 40/1 Khalashan.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: EKTIBAAS (nap), beaten less than 7l in a Newmarket maiden that has thrown up some Group-class horses, looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to open his account. His trainer should know how he stands with Red Copper, who could be the main threat.[Paul Johnson]
First race of interest, and typical of the time of year, this is a short priced favourite returning in a maiden from a lay off of 254 days. 5/4 - - - 4/1 in the live betting market. obligatory good form on debut but so long off. Only the trainer knows how forward the horse is.
210 CHELTENHAM
BETTING FORECAST: 15/8 Third Intention, 9/4 Current Event, 9/2 Higgy´s Ragazzo, 7/1 Dona, 10/1 Smart Catch, 12/1Occasionally Yours.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: No 4yo has won this race since Indien Royal in 2003 but only three have tried in the meantime, none of whom could boast the same credentials as this year's trio. It's all about potential with Current Event, whose Newbury performance might not be quite as good as it looked with the favourite disappointing, and it can pay to stick with THIRD INTENTION. He represents the very best of the juvenile form and his seventh in the Triumph was no backward step.[Alistair Whitehouse-Jones]
Dona's absence makes this 3 under 20/1 on a good card at Cheltenham. Current Event and Third Intention dominate the betting. 3 for 2 places makes this potentially a good probability race.
430 CHELTENHAM
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Sir Kezbaah, 5/1 There´s No Panic, 13/2 Mister Hyde, 8/1 Counting House, 9/1 Hollins, 10/1 Benbane Head, 10/1 Nicene Creed, 12/1 Merrydown, 14/1 Busker Royal, 14/1 Kayf Aramis, 20/1 Dantari, 20/1 Natural Action.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Sir Kezbaah is officially 11lb well in even with his penalty and wouldn't be eligible to run in this race off his revised mark, so his claims are crystal clear after winning so effortlessly at Exeter. However, he's not the only one with fair prospects and there's good reason to expect better from BENBANE HEAD, who returns to better ground and with a tongue strap applied after making a noise at Newbury.[Alistair Whitehouse-Jones]
Spotlight recounts the chances of "handicap good thing" Sir Kezbaah. 11/4 - - - - 7/1 in the live betting market.
715 KEMPTON
BETTING FORECAST: 4/5 Field Of Miracles, 4/1 Armoise, 5/1 Moment Juste, 6/1 Galivant, 25/1 Willow The Rose, 33/1Himalayan Moon, 66/1 Lauralu, 66/1 Pyjoma.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Armoise and Galivant are both open to plenty of improvement now upped in trip and have to be respected, but John Gosden looks to hold a very strong hand with Moment Juste and FIELD OF MIRACLES. The latter went into notebooks galore after her strong-finishing fourth on her debut and this looks a good opportunity to get off the mark.[Paul Smith]
Maiden Fillies race with the favourite not running for 166 days in an 8 runner maiden with 2 debutants and 4 other one time outers.
Great card at Newmarket which starts with 2 maiden races where only 1 horse in 23 has run before!!
410 NEWMARKET
BETTING FORECAST: 8/11 Native Khan, 5/1 Libranno, 11/2 Yaseer, 8/1 Casual Glimpse, 12/1 Ahlaain, 50/1 Yahafedh Alaih.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: NATIVE KHAN (nap) sets a good standard on his fourth in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy last October and is bred to be better this year, so ought to be very hard to beat. Libranno can chase him home.[Mel Cullinan]
"bred to be better" - well they're not "bred to be worse!!" Big price gapper but yet again 173 day absence the worry. Fallon in the saddle a plus .
655 SEDGEFIELD
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Jeringa, 7/2 Toulouse Express, 4/1 Play The Rock, 6/1 Moon Melody, 7/1 Snake Rave, 12/1 Esme Rides A Gaine.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: JERINGA has kept finding one too good this season but can gain a deserved victory against some out of form and/or inconsistent rivals.[Chris Wilson]
Although the betting market does not scream out "certainty" for Jeringa, his 2nd places, especially over course and distance twice, indicates a horse adept at chase fences and there at the business end. Under 8 runners means 2 places only
425 TIPPERARY
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Boris Grigoriev, 9/4 Tough As Nails, 3/1 Cheerful Giver, 6/1 Gin Rummy, 12/1 Hamlet The Dane, 14/1Diamond Rainbow, 16/1 Artic Dancer, 16/1 Clubland, 16/1 Lady Superior.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Tough As Nails is seeking compensation following his demotion from first place after he drifted right under pressure on his debut at the Curragh last month. He cannot be discounted from calculations with that valuable experience behind him but a chance is taken with newcomer BORIS GRIGORIEV to score for Ballydoyle with Cheerful Giver another with claims. [Brian Fleming]
Yet another race chock full of debutants who could be anything. Boris deserves respect for his trainer. Cheerful giver was a recent 3rd .and Tough as nails is favourite and a diqualified winner - surely he can put his experience to use in a maiden where only 4 are under 20/1
635 TIPPERARY
BETTING FORECAST: 15/8 Notable Graduate, 3/1 Kasanka, 4/1 Justification, 5/1 Solar Event, 6/1 Cherokee Brave, 12/1 Gap Of Dunloe, 12/1 Minsk, 12/1 Secretsubstitute, 14/1 Noble Call, 20/1 Revolutionary Road, 25/1 Darika, 25/1 Mac Tigue.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: With the benefit of a run this season NOTABLE GRADUATE (nap), who has an edge over one of the Ballydoyle duo Justification on two-year-old form, should be hard to beat, though due respect should be afforded to first-timersKasanka, Solar Event and Cherokee Brave. [Alan Sweetman]
Fav comes from the imperious Weld/Smullen partnership, has had that all important run this season, now 2 2nd places, but is up in trip again for this maiden against some strong ( on paper) opponents.
TENNIS MONTE CARLO MASTERS
1230pm - Cilic v Federer - 1.13 Federer - trust in Fed, although Nadal clearly the man to beat without injury
SHORTLIST
The Europa League is an imponderable tonight as the over evens generally about the market leaders attests.
The horse racing is littered with strong looking runners but overcoming horrendous absences. Other races are chock full of debutants who could be anything.
A poor day of strong opportunities.
210 CHELTENHAM - realistic probability race sees 3 horses under 20/1 for 2 places 1.5 the fav to place tells all though. Front 3 are difficult to separate.
430 CHELTENHAM - Sir Kezbaah is the proverbial handicap good thing and 1.71 to place is enticing although I would prefer to trade the price rather than back it straight. I could see the price reducing to 1.35 in running where I would trade out.
655 SEDGEFIELD - a chase - YUK!! But Jeringa keeps coming 2nd and has come 2nd twice over course and distance - a realistic argument for place backing? 1.95 tells you all about the potential pitfalls of handicap chases.
425 TIPPERARY -now I would risk Tough as nails here to place if my argument that he is effectively a winner running in a maiden holds up ( a disqualified winner) -4 under 20/1 so a chance on placing?
