30/4

Simple day -Dark Missile to place only - came 2nd . YAkimov won at 2/5. 1-0 at half time - no goal in the first 10 minutes , and under 2.5 goals

Simple yet profitable.!

I noticed, with hindsight, Morinqua winning at good odds. This is a speedball and is worth following I think.

245 ASCOT

BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Makaaseb, 9/2 Kay Es Jay, Rinterval, Rosaleen, 7/1 Bramaputra, 10/1 My Aunt Fanny, 50/1 Applesnap .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Connections clearly retain faith in MAKAASEB and the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes entry can make amends for her Rockfel disappointment

Early price move for Rosaleen making the horse clear 2nd fav. Dutch wth Makaaseb or place only given 7 runners should offer some good odds?

320
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Cesare, 9/4 Royal Oath, 4/1 Don´t Panic, 8/1 Ordnance Row, 12/1 Caldra, 20/1 Drumfire .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: This will probably develop into a battle between CESARE and Royal Oath who both have a good record on this track. The top weight was value for more than his length-and-a-half winning margin over the Hunt Cup hero in a Group 2 here last summer after encountering trouble in running and his sharp turn of foot can prove decisive today even though 7lb worse off.[AC]

A class 1 race so the odds should accurately reflect chances. Cesare and Royal oath are dutchable, but the Betfair market indicates that don't panic should be competitive - if you want to speculate on the of chance there is an upset, then level stakes the front 3 leaves a big payout on Don't Panic

BALLINROBE

Again look out for Weld/Smullen and Aiden O'Brien
535 - Alaneed

GREAT LEIGHS
520
BETTING FORECAST: 2/1 Aromatherapy, Tableau Vivant, 6/1 Illusion, 9/1 Totem Flower, 10/1 Mignonette, 12/1 Dolcetto, 16/1 Sabancaya, 20/1 Spiritofthestorm, 25/1 Let Me Pass, 33/1 Nisbah, 100/1 Bunty Malenoir .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: AROMATHERAPY showed sufficient promise as a juvenile to suggest she's capable of making it third time lucky on her return. Tableau Vivant is an obvious danger on form and, of the newcomers, Illusion is most interesting

The front 2 are 9/4 with 2 other horses at 6/1 and the rest perceived outsiders. Given the maiden status of this race, an each way punt on Illusion and Totem flower - hopefully one will place and both will be able to rough up the market leaders

550
BETTING FORECAST: 10/11 The Dial House, 7/2 Mrs Kipling, 5/1 Barbee, 8/1 White Shift, 12/1 Lonsdale Lad, 20/1 Ready To Prime, 50/1 Twos And Eights .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: The promising THE DIAL HOUSE will find this less competitive than his encouraging AW debut assignment and can use his experience edge to get the job done.[BDO

Money for Mrs Kipling - curently 2/1 -prices 2.04 for the dial house and 3.1 for Mrs Kipling. Using fAIRBOT I can dutch these 2 horses - or with level stakes leave a marginal gain on the Dial House and a big payout on Mrs Kipling

Soft ground at Pontefract would make me keen to lay Art Princess in the maiden in the first if odds are short enough

FOOTY
Any reason to desert under 2.5 goals in the Liverpool Chelsea match ? Chelsea at home ,yes, don't lose...?

29/4

Not a bad day yesterday helped by Arsenal over 3.5 goals coming in,m Royal Rock winning at 4/1.Again that treble let down by a draw with the BAggies - 1st run of 3 losing bets so not a good sign but let';s give it a whole season and see its worth

440 BATH
BETTING FORECAST: 10/11 Dark Missile, 8/1 Cake, Dubai Princess, Morinqua, Ripples Maid, 14/1 Loch Jipp, Reel Gift, 25/1 Carcinetto, Day By Day, Masada, 33/1 Sweet Afton, 50/1 Edge Of Gold, 66/1 Tilly´s Dream .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: DARK MISSILE is not completely bombproof down in trip but she has proved she is as good as ever this spring and sets the standard by some way here. The tough Ripples Maid and the speedy Morinqua have solid frame claims, with Dubai Princess most interesting of the 3yos.[AC]

PRice gapper here in Dark Missile who, if remaining 10/11, is worthy of support. Again the safety cautious can take the place only route

230 SOUTHWELL

Yakimov again looks obvious and at 1/2 I will play up my Arsenal winnings

FOOTY

Man Utd v Barcelona is intriguing - we got a resounding response to the question " Which Barcs would show up?" last time - the shit hot BArca, and if they show up again tonight ,then the Reds are in trouble. One away goal is all they need ,but they are not Italians and can't shut up shop.

Despite the talent on show, surely under 2.5 goals to trade must be an option, also an opportunity to get back some of that lost first goal odds stake money in laying first goal odds 1-10 minutes. ?
I have been quite successful wioth half time score dutching of late and again, 0-0, 1-0, 0-1 loooks worthy of support form a level stakes dutching perspective with a slight loss on the 0-0.

Advantage firmly with BArca and at 2.32 worth backing to qualify? The only team to have beaten CHelsea at Stamford Bridge - and that is a formidable record, they have it in their power to really test Man Utd ,and the odds may be worth a throw away bet

28/4

Giant among men a frustrating 4th for each way, Be smart went off a silly price and won, Duke won at 38/10, Silver shoon placed at 10/3, Jealous guy lost, Yeats won and Red maloney placed, 12\1 horse scuppered the dutch, Knowing wink placed, Tiffany unplaced,
Celtic rangers first goal bet lost, Everton unders trade came off with 0-0 half time - again the power of trading as full time score was anything but unders! Again 1-0 in the Inter match until 82nd minute - final score 2-1 - again under 2.5 goal trading a success despite the finalscore

Very uninspiring racing today with 2 all weathers and Towcester with its killer hill
320 LINGFIELD
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Apache Dawn, 5/1 Samuel Charles, 6/1 Shot To Fame, 8/1 The Jailer, 10/1 Tiepie, Wee Buns, 14/1 Victor Trumper, 16/1 Majestical, Marko Jadeo, 33/1 Da Bookie .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Apache Dawn drops into this company for the first time and if he is anywhere near his best, he will win. He hasn't given the impression of being entirely straightforward though - the fitting of headgear may help in that regard - and perhaps it is worth siding with the reliable SAMUEL CHARLES. This is tougher than the weak seller he won last time but he rarely fails to give his running round here and should go well once again

It's been an interesting pattern recently regarding seeming price gappers whose betting forecast price is NOT mirrored in the early price market. Case in point - Apache Dawn 5/2 and Samuel Charles 7/2 indicates a potential lack of confidence in the jolly.
Samule CHarles each way for me. On 3 previous occasions such profiled market leaders have been beaten

Small fields at Southwell hint at competitiveness and maybe it would be worth laying the market leaders \betting forecast favourites. As things stand it is a card which I don't want to get involved in

TOWCESTER
A killer final hill normally signals great laying shorties in running as this hill can sap horses.
210
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Learning The Blues, 5/2 Sharajan, 3/1 Palmers Peak, 12/1 Dynamic Rhythm, 20/1 Bright Green, Captain Smoothy, 25/1 Keltic Moon, Ya I Know, 33/1 Lockstone Lad, 66/1 Molly Hussey, 100/1 My Beautiful Loser, Pennine Moon .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Few that can be seriously considered and a good opportunity for LEARNING THE BLUES to get off the mark over fences if the ground is good or faster. Palmers Peak may give him most to do, though Sharajan's prospects would improve with every drop of rain

Pipe horse at the head of the marketand a decent enough place only opportunity. At Towcester I do like to find course winners.-none in this race though
Windsor starts with a 5 furlong debutant maiden race with 2 runners only having previous outings - watchword here is market moves a la 16/1 system
Yarmouth will no doubt have Derek "that's one for the judge" Tommo commentating - about the only highlight!
330
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Cape, 4/1 Blue Tomato, Ingleby Arch, Royal Rock, 8/1 Ajigolo, 10/1 Orpenindeed, 16/1 Fyodor, 20/1 Classic Encounter .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Slower ground would have been ideal for the returning Royal Rock and Cape, while Ajigolo flopped on his turf comeback. Northern raiders Ingleby Arch and BLUE TOMATO both look solid enough, with preference for the latter as long as there's isn't too much ra

Royal Rock at 21/10 - Cape might be a non runner - would have been a potential 4 horse race -worth following the market move - again preference for the place only -being safe and with safety comes less of a return

19:45 Vitoria Setubal vs Amadora 4/7 12/5 4/1
20:00 Derby vs Arsenal 11/1 9/2 1/4

Which 3 of the above should I select

Well 3 home teams - 2 at 1/2 or 4\7 or equivalent - Aab Alborg is the first then , West BRom versus Southampton - added incentive of automatic promotion for the win? -BUT Saints fighting for their lives - if Le Tiss (Guernsey's finest ) was playing, I'd back them
Djurgarden is the 3rd at 3/10 to make the treble - will it be successful?

One game today stands out - Arsenal away to Derby - fill yer boots? BEtfair is unavailable - chance for an enhanced bet? Over 3.5 goals with an eye on trading , or Arse halftime/fulltime should enhance the 1/4

27/4

One thing to learn yesterday - don't be scared to back just the place - paid off yesterday where backing to win would have produced lost stake. All in all a decent day for me, especially with Caen drawing 2-2 with Lyon - another shortie lay in the bag . I was laughing when I saw the HAmmers 2-0 up and 2-2 half time - I kissed my lay goodnight then King Kev's Toon got me back on winning ways!
Chelsea - unders trade - again should have been profitable dependent on time - again a time v profit thing, BUT YET AGAIN CHELSEA DO NOT LOSE AT HOME - a licence to print money - imagine 100+ games without losing at home - keep laying opponents until that time they lose at home.
Key factor for me was a profit on the day in a round about way mind! Generally spot on with the gee gees - a rarety on Saturdays, and all in all aprofit on the footy

225 GOWRAN
Again like last week, concentration on O'Brien and Weld/Smullen
Giant among Men each way -but 1st choice jock Murtagh not on board

255 - Ox/Kinane on Be Smart to place

Could be a day for Oxx/Kinane instead here with Weld /Smullen conspicuous by their absence

LONGCHAMP
320
Duke of MArmalade tells us where O'Brien/Murtagh are - no prices available but an obvious place contender

320 NAAS
Silver Shoon sees Weld/Smullen in action although preference would be for their each way price contenders - this is a shortie

355 - JEalous Guy at a more appealing price each way

430
BETTING FORECAST: 4/7 Yeats, 7/2 Red Moloney, 7/1 Alfie Flits, 8/1 Nick´s Nikita, 12/1 Lounaos, 20/1 Scotch Bonnet, 66/1 Dancesowell.

O'BRien/Heffernan on Yeats - soft ground a concern as the horse seems to favour a quicker surface -Red Maloney breathing down his neck and if priced well enough could be a good place only bet in the stead of the jolly. 1.6at present to place in an illiquid market where market forces haven't taken shape, this knocks off .20 profit on Yeats to win and positions us favourably should soft ground find teh class act out. Oh Boy, it's difficult to go against a Ballydoyle fav of this stature!

500 MAryallen SPirit for Weld/Smullen again at 2/1 -can be backed with Angel Story and Fikrah to level stakes although the 3.65 on offer for the win is reasonable enough

530 - both pairings take up 1st and 2nd here in the market and level stakes backing of king of Westphalia at 4.3 and Almohalek at 3.6 can be achieved.

600 - Knowing Wink and Tiffany Diamond each way

It would be extremely naive to think that blanket backing of O'BRien and Weld/SMullen horses is going to profit daily .Should there be a surprise big priced win early I will take it and leave.

Ground is a concern but I think that over the course of a season we should achieve a decent return as there have been 12/1 and bigger winners form these 2 combinations in the past

FOOTY

Nice lay of Lyon at 1/3 capped off a reasonable day
Celtic v Rangers -I will lay first goal odds 1-10 minutes today in the hope it'll be tight early on . Difficult to read today for me but advantage for Celtic given Rangers game congestion 4.9 is a big big to lay Rangers but could be the way to go here in the hope Celtic score first at home against a Rangers side who must be feeling it surely.

Football is difficult to predict as was seen by yesterday's scores at this time of the season.
Everton v Villa I would back under 2.5 goals to trade. Both need the win and this is not a pointless game so a tight affair - Cahill still out

I'm going to try under 2.5 goals in the Inter v Cagliari game -Cagliari seem to be able to hold their own against Inter. -again to trade

CONCLUSION - too many shorties for the O'BRien/Smullen bets today and softish ground may be a problem.

26/4

Well MAster Somerville was a runner - he didn't have an SP when I wrote the blog so analysis there was wrong. Canalturn won well and the place came in.

The Chepstow race was affected by a late short priced non runner in Connack - Elevith Echo 2nd there at 2/1, not an each way price.

An HTB selection in a seller - would place but NOT win - MArc of Brilliance

Master John unplaced

Nice lay of Sublimity, beaten by Punjabi. Cobo Bay placed so no loss there , and makes me want to go back to Guernsey!

Good to get Captain Webb beaten by a 6/1 shot at that (level stakes dutching meant he was a 5/1 winner as we had to account for stake on 2nd horse in the dutch)

Le Havre won, and I was counting my money on Nantes when they succumbed to an 85th minute equaliser - again IF in running this would have been a nice profit. Advantage Le HAvre for the Ligue 2 title

All in all a good day for me with Conduit the icing on the cake.

HAYDOCK
750
BETTING FORECAST: Evs Conquisto, 3/1 Yathreb, 8/1 Allied Powers, 10/1 Dramatic Solo, 12/1 Carry On Cleo, 14/1 Indian Days, 50/1 Saturday Boy .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Yathreb failed to produce on course what he'd evidently shown at home last season but that means he starts handicap life on a workable mark. However, CONQUISTO (nap) is very solid, having followed home the progressive Jaser on his comeback and pulled a long way clear of the rest.[GW]

A 2 horse race in prospect? Early prices indicate as much with 11/10 and 11/4. It's far too early for the Betfair market to be fully formed, but at current prices, level stakes on Conquisto and Yathreb leaves a big profit on Yathreb and small gain on Conquisto.
Because of race time, this bet will be at the behest of late withdrawals and any market moves unforeseen as I write.

LEICESTER
215 - the link is below - looks a 2 horse race -I will back Waffle (currently 2.12) for £10, Rayvin MAd (currently 2.56) for £10 and Classic Blade (16) for £3 -5 furlongs - small losses on most likely winners and nice profit if there's a surprise
350 - price gapper in a listed race looks nailed on to place. If still odds against, would be a worthy investment.
425 - Harry the Hawk - won last twice - top RPR (although RPR indicates a tight bunch) -9/14 tips - 11/8 - - - 6/1 currently. Course is an unknown - 10 day distance winner - jockey never ridden him before - looks to be claiming 5 lbs
Again must be a place for me alas given jockey
500 - Warringah and World Time each way look the value against Tartan Bearer
card meeting - www.racingpost.co.uk

MARKET RASEN

150 - looks a race of 2 halves - those numbered highest look out of it so best to concentrate on 1-7. Each way 3 the place so any choice has 4 to beat to place .Commander Kev each way for me at current 4/1

330 - HErald angel at 11/4 - bit of a drift - the hint that the horse may be worth taking on?
Conditional jockeys mean I will speculate - Fast Fred each way

PUNCHESTOWN

begins with another specialist distance race, and with Garde Champetre a non runner for Enda Bolger, this skewed my dutch last time. Today sees the return of the above named and although a ridiulouse betting medim from a logic point of view (24 runners - 3 miles) I will back Garde and Headsontheground each way -

420 - looks a 4 horse affair with Franchoek the jolly and Quevega near. Franchoek to place is the obvious one, although a dutch using fairbot on the 4 horses to provide and equalised profit may be the way

Ripon one to avoid but a good card to play for live market followers I would guess.

SANDOWN

A tricky but high quality card
140 - the straight 8 and Poquelin each way could place at least

320 Royal County Star each way

WOLVERHAMPTON

735 - toss of a coin - One night in Paris to win - 2 horse race and I was taken by Spotlight comment - "looks the safest option by some distance"
835 - maiden fillies - got to lay the fav haven't you at 1/8 - will win no doubt but if these fillies have their minds on getting Westlife tickets or a new handbag, that may be just enough

If you click on the course above, it should bring up the Racing Post Card

FOOTY
1245 - time to get the under 2.5 goal cash machine working again? Chelsea must win. Again they are at home, and if we follow the pattern that you all know by now, Chelsea DO NOT lose at home. This would point to a non trading lay of Man Utd (at 3.45). All sequences do end but this one is so entrenched I think they players believe they just will not lose at home.
Half time score 0-0, 1-0, and 0-1 can be dutched with small loss on 0-0

Remember those football questions. Liverpool today will be the ideal example - wholesale changes afoot with Champions LEague mid week ( will this affect United v Chelsea I wonder?) Birmingham's poor display at villa was unexpected but at home they seem a different animal. Under 2.5 goals again for me to trade - hopefully a tight early game and the poor Villa performance can be forgotten

I will lay the HAmmers at home today - still injury ravaged - still in holiday mode - the 3 musketeers shoudl nick a goal or 2 for King Kev

Kilmarnock at home - enhance odds by half time/full time betting? Gretna must be opposed

Are Caen a bogey team for Lyon? Won last 2 encounters. At 1/3 Lyon look layable, albeit without too much enthusiasm and confidence and stakes reduced to reflect that. BUT bogey teams can turn the form on its head

25/4

Well he is one ugly fecker but at over 7's as long as he scores a goal - I'd kiss him! ( well maybe not!) Thanks Frank! Laying Bayern also came in as Zenit equalised. Unders in RAngers came in - made up for some each way close shaves and non placements. i could have done with a couple of the bigger prices winning not coming 2nd or 3rd.

615 BANGOR

BETTING FORECAST: 5/2 Master Somerville, Mylord Collonges, 7/2 Pop Ahead, 6/1 Double Header, 7/1 Cleymor House, 25/1 Always Baileys, Bynack Mhor, 33/1 Heavy Weather, Red Dawn, Thegalleryman, 50/1 Flying Jody, Making Overtures, 100/1 Ardfry .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: MASTER SOMERVILLE proved a revelation when woken up by blinkers latest and, now that connections have found the key to him, he could well go in again. Pop Ahead and Mylord Collonges can fill the minor placings.[BDO]

5 horse race?MAster Somerville a non runner skews the price market - potential market movers include Always Bailey (12/1)and heavy weather (18/1) - these may just be reactions to a short priced non rnner. Mylord Collonges same price and 7/2 early doors looks worth an interest now his similarly priced rival is a non runner.

645

BETTING FORECAST: 4/5 Canalturn, 7/2 It´s In The Stars, 8/1 Caheerloch, 9/1 Island Key, 16/1 Radmores Revenge, 20/1 First Boy, General Potter, Lady Bernie, 25/1 Public Esteem, 33/1 Reve D´Ami, 50/1 Celtic Treasure, 100/1 Boston Mondain, Taylor´s Tailor, Youluckyman .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: A decent chance for the potentially useful CANALTURN, who only just missed out in a stronger race last month, to gain the success he deserves.[BDO]
Canalturn to place only ( fancy the win but it's a maiden hurdle)

520 CHEPSTOW
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Crescent Island, 3/1 Connak, 13/2 Evelith Echo, 7/1 King Caine, 12/1 The Spieler, 14/1 Bertie May, 16/1 Warrior Drive, 33/1 Mr Nick, 40/1 Just Talking, My Friend Sandy, 50/1 Wide Receiver, 66/1 Java Victory, Just Gold, 100/1 Morgan The Mighty, Perran Bay, The Silent King .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Crescent Island is the one to beat on the evidence of last week's fine Cheltenham run but there are alternatives. KING CAINE was a flop when last seen but his earlier win looks very solid form and he is given the chance to return to that promise

A big field and Elevith Echo (Choc Thornton) and A chance on Bertie May each way.
Both in the price band before the perceived outsiders

605 NEWTON ABBOTT
BETTING FORECAST: 8/13 Marc Of Brilliance, 6/1 Kofi, 8/1 Benayoun, 12/1 Weet For Ever, 14/1 Gertie, Oceans Grand, 25/1 Shouldntbethere, 33/1 Augustus Caeser, Grand Sefton, 50/1 Hazard Away .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: MARC OF BRILLIANCE takes a big drop in class on his return to action and is hard to oppose for a trainer to be feared at this level. Oceans Grand is a possible each-way alternative

HTB selection BUT in a poor seller - long time off but a price gapper - 11/12 tips - top RPR -

705
BETTING FORECAST: 8/15 Oslot, 3/1 Templer, 10/1 Lancaster Sound, 12/1 Master John, 14/1 Dr Hart, 33/1 Feeling Better, 100/1 Dunbell Boy, El Sueno, Outside Investor, Past Heritage, Springleaze .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: OSLOT's main form rival Templer needs a return to form aftrer two lesser shows, admittedly in much more competitive races than this, and the Nicholls horse is easily the best place to turn. Lancaster Sound could be interesting for another day.

Master John an early price mover to 8/1 - if remaining then each way

420 PUNCHESTOWN - a lay of Sblimity for me with 2 in very clse attendance OR back just HArchibald and Punjabi to level stakes ( 5/2 and 3/1) and try to reduce loss on Sblimity by putting a little on

SANDOWN
115
BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Cobo Bay, 5/1 Arctic Cape, Commander Cave, 11/2 Stubbs Art, 7/1 Hawaana, 8/1 Unbreak My Heart, 9/1 Traphalgar, 12/1 Jedediah, 20/1 Dalkey Girl .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: There are possibilities every way you look but COBO BAY sets the standard with his win at Ripon last week

I know Cobo Bay - a bay in Guernsey opposite my old local the Rockmount - I was going to back him last time based on that and he scooted home at 9/1 - d'oh - I'll chance him each way here around 4/1

410 SANDOWN
BETTING FORECAST: 6/5 Captain Webb, 6/1 Colony, Conduit, 9/1 Pacifism, 10/1 Trenchtown, 12/1 City Of The Kings, 14/1 Dona Alba, 16/1 Safari Sunup, 18/1 Cossack Prince, 20/1 Harry Gee, 25/1 Midships .

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: CAPTAIN WEBB faces weak opposition at Brighton last time but looked very good and can continue his unbeaten run under today's penalty. Lots of the others could improve as middle-distance three-year-olds, with the Stoute-trained pair Conduit and Colony in particular catching the eye.[RA]

Conduit and Colony each way against the multiple winner

3 into 1 - none today

2 2nd's - one at over evens, one odds on - another fecking odds on loser! I'm keeping track of all bets not just evens and above

FOOTBALL
Again a great night and today it's Beaujolais, Beaujolais with Nantes and Le havres at home , but I am a little concerned by their recent "bottling it" in games.3 draws on the trot for Le Havre - there is a form line through AMien who Le HAvre beat easily, BUT who beat Riems 1-0. We have a sequence to break tonight and that's 3 draws on the trot. What is the likelihood of a 4th? So it points to the win for Le Havre who have dropped 6 points in their last 3 - still 4 points ahead of Nantes so if NAntes win tonight and Le Havre draw then it will be tight.

Nantes - draw win loss draw last 4 - the draw and win came at home and they are priced 4/7 tonight against Montpellier. I can't see them losing this match and they will be keen to win. If they draw or lose and Le Havre win, then the gap may become unassailable at the head of the league.
Both teams at home - both teams priced to win by 1 at least and the urgency and need for a win -I'll back both and hope for a return to early season form
