16/8

*****ONE A DAY - 215 MUSSELBURGH - First Fast Now to place only - Please use Betfair SP if you cannot get some of the 1.25***** Slight suspicion that a horse 2nd 5 times should be relatively highly priced for a 7 runner/3 place race ( greater probability of placing) , but I have been tempted by said odds.

A win to nil for Man City yesterday. Never in doubt really.

745pm - Arsenal v Udinese - 1.65 home - first match of interest at 745pm tells you about the kind of day we have footballing wise. Thank the Racing Post for the following nuggets - " Arsenal have failed to win 12 of their last 14 matches either side of of the summer break........Fabregas has been sold to Barcelona, while Samir Nasri and Van Persie are suspended. With Jack Wilshere injured and Tomas Rosicky doubtful"

Wow, I agree with the RP that that 1.65 is a tad short. Remember that this is a Champions League match so Arsenal need to keep a clean sheet, and hope to score a decisive away goal in the 2nd leg. Ditto. Udinese would like a 1-0 lead to bring to Udinese and then perform the usual Italian defensive job .

0-0 therefore looks backable as a trade early on, as I suppose, would under 2.5 goals.

745pm -
FC Copenhagen v Plzen - 1.7 home - my favourite team so far this season , FC Copenhagen, on their European adventures. - We always have the tactical issue to factor in with home/away Champions League clashes but that 1.7 could look as big as the 1.6 for Man Utd a couple of days ago , come 930pm. Difficult to gauge the strengths/weaknesses of Plzen and the relative merits of the Czech league when compared with the Danish League.

745pm -
Luton v Forest Green - 1.45 home - only one match into the conference season and Luton are yet to play . A match to gloss over as we have very little to go on.

745pm -
Twente v Benfica - 2.56 home - knee jerk reaction points to goals here but then that is dampened by the 2 leg Champions League factor. Still , 2 sides who love the onion bag. Benfica did the perfect 2 legged match last time, winning 2-0 at home and drawing 1-1 away . Twente won 2-0 at home and drew 0-0 away against Vaslui.
We can infer therefore that these teams at home have a specific tactic. Draw the away match and win the home match. BUT of course both teams cannot draw away matches if the home team is seeking to win the home match! Who will prevail?

745pm -
Watford v West Ham - 2.3 away - again I am shortlisting this match based on the fact the Hamsters are newly relegated and expected to be dominant in this league. 2.3 therefore appeals from a trader perspective.
Third match in the Championship and no point doing detailed research just yet. Head to heads largely irrelevant given the last head to head saw Watford in the Premiership.
Watford so far have drawn 2-2 away ( having been 2-0 up) and lost 1-0 at home to Derby County.
West Ham so far have lost 1-0 to Cardiff - a 91st minute winner a sickener for the Hamsters. A 5th minute Nolan winner day an away win against Doncaster and an inference that the Hammers defence is strong ( albeit only 2 games , and only a 91st minute concession).
Speculators will point at a potential 1-0, 0-1, 0-0 scoreline, but then we can argue that West Ham are clear favourites and could let loose at any stage. Tough to call and basing betting decisions on 2 matches could catch us with our pants down.

The first race at Brighton is interesting today but 2 year olds and this unique course rarely get along.

620 KEMPTON

BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Billy Buttons, 7/2 Star Commander, 9/2 Rocky Rebel, 6/1 Novirak, 10/1 Steely, 14/1 Full Stretch, 40/1 Famagusta, 50/1 Father Martin, 100/1 Colliers Castle.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Star Commander deserves to win a race and is respected back down in trip but it's hard to look past BILLY BUTTONS, whose narrow miss at Windsor was given a good boost when the winner scored easily at the weekend.[Dave Orton]

Billy Buttons is having his 3rd run and form wise, his last run points to strong favouratism today as one of only 3 under 12/1 adn now odds on favouratism. Another maiden.

720 KEMPTON

BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 Gassin Golf, 2/1 Stateos, 9/2 Fugitive Motel, 12/1 Cherry Street, 25/1 Lady Bellatrix, 33/1 Compton Bell, 40/1 Fantasy Hero, 100/1 Aunty Mavis.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Stateos can be forgiven a disappointing display when favourite at Lingfield but will have his work cut out against GASSIN GOLF who sets a decent standard on his debut second on the same course. [Frank Carter]

7 runners - 3 places (?) - another 2 year old maiden but an ideally profiled race - Gassin Golf and Stateos the 2 against the field here with the obvious value selection being the latter.

215 MUSSELBURGH

BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 First Fast Now, 9/4 Koolgreycat, 9/2 Rougini, 8/1 Verus Delicia, 12/1 Angel Of Hope, 14/1 Roy´s Legacy, 25/1 Economic Crisis, 25/1 George Fenton.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: FIRST FAST NOW is proving frustrating but earns preference over Koolgreycat by virtue of her proven ability on a soft surface. [Frank Carter]

you remember First Fast Now - I mentioned him last time - yet another maiden race, this guy has finished 2nd in his last 5 races and is a poster boy for place only betting.

640 WORCESTER

BETTING FORECAST: 4/6 Saved By John, 9/2 Cousin Maggie, 11/2 Shammy Buskins, 12/1 Lady Of Synone, 16/1 Half Mast, 16/1 Tales To Tell, 66/1 Reel Weld, 66/1 Simplyirresistible, 100/1 Indared.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: SAVED BY JOHN should prove hard to beat, even under a penalty, with Cousin Maggie and Shammy Buskins looking the likeliest to fill the frame.[Jonathan Neesom]

Price gapper in this novices hurdle. 3 under 12/1

745pm - Arsenal v Udinese - 1.65 home - under 4.5 goals is 1.15 - under 3.5 goals is a very tempting 1.39 albeit in an illiquid market ( only £700 available at 1.39)

745pm - FC Copenhagen v Plzen - 1.7 home - laying Plzen at 6.4 is the same as a 1.17 back bet.

720 KEMPTON - Gassin Golf to place has a great chance I feel with 7 runners and 3 places.

215 MUSSELBURGH - First Fast Now has 5 2nd places , is in a 7 runner race for 3 places and 1.25 - slight suspicion re the relative high price but surely the horse has a great chance to finish in the top 3 again ( unless there is a plot afoot to profit from laying the place?)
