8/3

Both shortlisters placed yesterday which was pleasing. It's always good that AP McCoy bagged a winner before his ride on Song of Songs strengthening confidence and he won.

215 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Galaxy Rock, Hereditary, 5/1 Naturally Inspired, 13/2 Carrickmines, More Like It, 10/1 Lawgiver, 12/1 Karathaena, 20/1 Springvic, 25/1 Petrichan, Siegfrieds Night.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Pick of these inconsistent performers could be HEREDITARY, who was sparked into life by blinkers last month and remains nicely treated on the pick of his earlier form, including on soft ground.[BDO]

Karatheana the market mover into 6/1 in places

225 KELSO
BETTING FORECAST: 4/6 Sir Tantallus Hawk, 9/4 Maxwellton Braes, 4/1 Sundae Best, 25/1 Sparkling Zola, 33/1 Alfoisin, 50/1 Fizzen, Nonotreally, Yarrow Valley, 100/1 What A Cliche, 200/1 Doodlebop, Even Smarter.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Unless Sundae Best can improve dramatically on his debut effort in a bumper, this is likely to be a match between Catterick winner Sir Tantallus Hawk and MAXWELLTON BRAES, who earns the vote as he may well be the better suited by the easy ground.[DH]

3 under 25/1 in the ebtting forecast, and 3 under 20/1 in the live market with all,bar 4, at 66/1 or bigger. Looks to concern the front 2 in the betting with Sir Tantallus HAwk the horse whose name I recognise 1.12 / 1.27 / 1.85 the front 3 to place

235 KELSO
BETTING FORECAST: 8/15 Kilbeggan Blade, 11/2 Blistering, 10/1 Outlaw Tom, 12/1 C´Monthehammers, 14/1 Go All Out, Orchard King, 20/1 All The Fashion, Paddy Live, 66/1 Tom O´Tara, 100/1 Tremolo, 150/1 Dawn Street.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: KILBEGGAN BLADE (nap), whose hurdles mark was reassessed to the same level (141) as his rating over fences after his latest Towcester success, sets a useful standard and his double penalty is reduced by Rhys Flint's valuable 5lb claim.[SB]

Price gapper here but who the feck is Rhys Flint? I would have preferred to have seen AP McCoy who rode the fav last 2 times. Can we trust Mr Flint in an 11 runner race over 3 miles? 1.12 to place

245 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 10/11 Phoudamour, 3/1 Quentin Collonges, 4/1 Flaco, 16/1 Briery Star, Dont Forget Bob, Prairie Spirit, 20/1 Northern Blaze, 25/1 Bertenbar, Bright Spirit, 33/1 Silver Sprite, Springfield Gunner, 50/1 Commercial Vic, 66/1 Westwire Toby, 100/1 One Accord.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: PHOUDAMOUR, who won't mind further rain, ought to have gained confidence from his latest ready win over hurdles. He could well give the weight to promising French import Quentin Collonges in what could become a match.[BDO]

Well McCoy is here at Market Rasen on the fav, in a race where 3 only are under 25/1 1.14 / 1.37 to place

255 KELSO
BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 Sphinx, 4/1 Oscar Honey, Wheyaye, 7/1 Cassius, 10/1 Classic Cut, 16/1 Saturn Island, 50/1 Flutina, The Dunion, 66/1 Primitive Fire, 200/1 Beau Peak, Foxy Nell, Vicious Prince.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: There ought to be more to come from Wheyaye with the return to a longer trip, but SPHINX (nap) should find this opposition more manageable than that he has faced so far over hurdles and should be hard to beat.[FC]

Classic Cut now 4/1 , Cassius clipped into 5/1 and Saturn Island 12/1 make this race a little less straightforward than it appeared at first glance

315 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 9/4 Sycho Fred, 3/1 Pass The Class, 4/1 Keen Warrior, 5/1 It´s Like That, 8/1 Cardington, 14/1 Thistlecraft, 25/1 Day Du Roy, 33/1 Iloveturtle,

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Sycho Fred looked an improved performer when winning here on Boxing Day but the Sue Smith pair Pass The Class and CARDINGTON also have hopes of improvement. The latter ran better than his finishing position suggests at Catterick after his layoff and should benefit a good deal from that outing.[EMW]

Thistlecraft 8/1 in places

325 KELSO
BETTING FORECAST: 11/8 Bow School, 11/4 Super Baby, 11/2 Cornerback, 7/1 Anglicisme, 9/1 Supremely Gifted, 14/1 Waterski, 33/1 Prince Mouse.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: BOW SCHOOL could probably have done with the ground drying out more but he handled an easy surface in points and, in a weak race, he may well be able to supplement Musselburgh gains. Super Baby is an obvious danger while Cornerback is another to consider.[DH]

Prince Mouse 14/1 in places

345 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Paradise Expected, 4/1 Toulouse Express, 6/1 Diarius, 12/1 Something Gold, Supreme Leisure, 14/1 Devils River, Illogical Hope, 16/1 Matinee Idol, 20/1 Island Key, Knock Boy, 25/1 Feeling Peckish.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: A weak affair and PARADISE EXPECTED is by far the most interesting runner after her comfortable hurdle win at Stratford nearly a week ago. She seemed to handle slower ground perfectly well earlier in her career and is well worth chancing on her return to fences off the same mark.[EMW]

Paradise Expected a price gapper. Richard Johnson on board - no significant market movers 1.3 to place

405 WARWICK
BETTING FORECAST: 5/1 Cash For Honours, Island Arrow, 6/1 Tarkesar, 10/1 Yeoman Spirit, 12/1 Dance Island, Don´t Be Bleu, Nick´s Choice, Pure Genius, Top Ram, 16/1 Buffalo Bob, Rock Salmon, 20/1 Archimboldo, Rothres, 25/1 Ar Nos Na Gaoithe, 33/1 Country Affair, Flaming Cheek, Glen Omen, 66/1 Go On Jack.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Island Arrow is the dark one, having only run five times in Ireland and progressed nicely latterly. The market will help in his case, but YEOMAN SPIRIT, who's come down 9lb in the handicap since the autumn and showed more last time, is put up as an each-way alternative.[GW]

Ar Nos Na Gaoithe now 12/1 with Buffalo Bob slight move into 12/1 but the former is more eyecatching

415 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Minella Boys, 4/1 Ballycarney, 8/1 Caramia, Walamo, 10/1 Dusky Lord, 12/1 Imtihan, Pelo Du Bief, 16/1 Bobby Gee, Jayne´s Crusader, 25/1 Go Amwell, Mceldowney, Oniz Tiptoes, 33/1 Magical Legend.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: The highly progressive MINELLA BOYS is fancied to find the reserves to complete the hat-trick. Ballycarney and Walamo are the two most likely threats.[BDO]

Bobby Gee 5/1 with a non runner at 8/1 ( will that have affected the market?)

445 MR
BETTING FORECAST: 5/4 Mcmurrough, 3/1 My Moment, 4/1 Sunsetten, 10/1 Springfield Raki, 14/1 The Black Baron, 16/1 Ellen Street, 25/1 Ruttan Lake, Trafalgar Road, 33/1 King Among Queens, 100/1 Fenwick Sands,

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Decent bumper recruit McMURROUGH (nap) has already performed well in stronger company as a hurdler and can make the most of the weight he gets from the useful Henry Daly-trained pair My Moment and Sunsetten.[BDO]

9 horse race - 2 outsiders at 66/1 and a market leader now odds on in places 1.17 to place

455 KELSO
BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 Best Lover, 9/4 Spellchecker, 8/1 Leo´s Quest, 10/1 Tyrrhenian, 12/1 Mr Bond, 14/1 Sam Patch, Singing Wizard, 66/1 Sylvan Oak, 100/1 Amulree, 250/1 Ashtonmore.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: BEST LOVER has the best form and he can make it third time lucky, probably at the main expense of Spellchecker, though Leo's Quest could be involved on his hurdling debut.[DH]

Only 2 under 10/1 and a fav with 2 second places which augurs well for place only backers 1.16 and 1.35 to place

505 WARWICK
BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Mayberry, 11/2 Basford Lady, 8/1 Miss Nightshade, 10/1 Jenny´s Gold, Penny Queen, 12/1 Desert Pearl, Gonnashine, 14/1 Lady Wyndham, 16/1 Gild The Lillie, Silver Sonnet, Sophisticated Lady, 20/1 Pull The Wool, 25/1 Amber Shell, Arctic Flow, Bobbisox, Lady Vera, 33/1 Mikeys Sister, Smiths Tempest, 40/1 Custom House Girl, 66/1 Blues Baby Daisey.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Several of these showed promise on their debuts and look open to progress, perhaps none more so than MAYBERRY. A half-sister to her connections' useful hurdler Blaeberry, she shaped well in a decent race at Newbury nearly two months ago and the support she attracted suggests a lot better can be expected. Basford Lady is next on the list.[SB]

FAv now 7/4 and Pull the Wool now 10/1 in places

ONE A DAY SHORTLIST
225 KELSO is interesting with 3 apparently in it. Sir Tantalus is the most recogniseable for me - 6 of the 11 runners are 50/1 or bigger.
As with other races of this type, the 1-2-3 currently in the betting rarely finish 1-2-3 in the place market with beggars the question - which one of these will feck up - Sir Tantallus? Maxwell? or Sundae?
We now have soft ground to contend with today too at Kelso. Maxwellton braes has been consistent on soft and heavy and a hint of market confidence with 15/8 showing in some places

245 MR - Phoudamour has McCoy on board and is steady at odds on at the head of the market. A race where the market tells us it should only involve 3 again, we have to hope the 1-2-3 in the betting are the 1-2-3 at home

345 MR - Paradise expected is odds on and a price gapper but faces chase fences for only the 2nd time.

445 MR - In a now 9 runner race, 2 horses are 50/1 or bigger, 2 are 25/1 or bigger which should reduce the competitive field to some 5, 3 of whom will place giving odds on McMurrough a decent place only chance today

455 KELSO - BEst LOver has come 2nd twice, and is now in a 10 runner race with 2 at 66/1 or bigger, 2 at 20/1 or bigger, and only him and Spellchecker under 10/1

Arsenal are the last of the top 4 sides on FA Cup duty this weekend - will they follow in the footsteps of the other 2 who dispatched inferior opposition with ease? 1.39 with an option to trade will ease the worries perhaps of getting involved in predominantly noive hurdle races today but the key element will be the team news. Man Utd and Chelsea fielded stronger sides than expected, even with the spectre of mid week Champions LEague matches.

I will chance the fav in the first mentioned race today, probably Sir Tantallus Hawk. My gut instinct is saying the last 2 at 445 MR and 455 Kelso as the better opportunities probability wise . Let's hope Sir Tantallus can place
