Ruby did the biz, and Shining Gale was a selection but became a non runner. Cue Shining Article to win at 1.14 against the original 100/1 shot. Bet of the century!
210 HEREFORD
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Glimmer Of Light could well defy his penalty if on another going day and, in fairness to him, he hasn't done much wrong since joining forces with Charlie Huxley. These faster conditions may pose a problem though and a chance is taken on ZORRO DE LA VEGA, who was competitive off much higher marks under both codes last summer and he hasn't had his ground since.[AWJ] |
Wishes or watches a mover into 6/1
220 TAUNTON
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Alflora Dora will be a popular choice, but LAVENDER TRACK was her superior in bumpers and it is worth chancing her fitness after a break with the stable in tremendous form.[FC] |
Moonlit Path 7/1 in places. Choc 'n' King on the fav must be taken into account 1.3 to place
240 HEREFORD
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Ffos Las Diamond, 4/1 Calaficial, Oddshoes, 5/1 Chord, 13/2 Players Please, 10/1 Mtoto´s Prince, 12/1 Tigger, 14/1 Bon Viveur, Segal, 33/1 Forever Buck, 50/1 Semi Detached, 100/1 Ana Buachaill Dana, 200/1 Dawn Street, Layed Back Rocky, Simplyirresistible,
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: ODDSHOES seems to have got his act together all of a sudden over hurdles and, now back at the right level after an ambitious bid at Sandown, looks the one to beat. With Chord now exposed and Calaficial beaten too far for comfort on his reappearance, it could be Ffos Las Diamond who provides the main threat |
Maiden hurdle- only 5 under 20/1 and McCoy is riding the Henderson fav. The 5 horses under 20/1, it must be said, are tightly bunched from a price perspective indicating McCoy's mount would only really be selected because the great man's onboard. 1.51 to place
250 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Yetholm, 2/1 Excape, 5/1 Take Me There, 14/1 Fly With The Stars, Guydus, 20/1 Persian Storm, 25/1 Jackers, 33/1 Unanswered, 50/1 More Than That, Murfreesboro, 100/1 Boogie Dancer, Soviet Cat, Strong Market.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Take Me There and Excape - may need quicker ground and blinkers - are almost certainly capable of better over hurdles, but YETHOLM looks the one to beat.[FC] |
Jackers is 12/1 in places in another novices hurdle
300 KEMPTON
BETTING FORECAST: 11/8 Dishdasha, 11/2 Wait For The Light, 6/1 Mixing, 7/1 Filun, Imperial Harry, Sommersturm, 16/1 Just Observing, 20/1 Lord Oroko.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: The 10lb rise for DISHDASHA will probably not stop him in this field. Sommersturm has quickly become well treated and needs the market check.[RA] |
Rpice gapper - Frankie Spencer on board. Middle distance races I don't like, but 8 runners and 3 the place 1.14 to place
320 TAUNT
BETTING FORECAST: 2/5 Leading Contender, 5/2 Topless, 16/1 Caspar Of Tarsus, 50/1 Lonesome Boatman.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Not a race that can be approached with any confidence but, with Topless increasingly unpredictable, it is LEADING CONTENDER's to lose.[FC] |
2 outsiders leaves front 2 for the 2 places? 1.12 to place - Will Caspar of Tarsus run as a 16/1 shot and will LEading Contender stay upright and run like a 2/5 shot? If so 1.12 is a great price
2 mile 7 a long way
330 KEMP
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Bishaara, 7/2 Wadaat, 9/2 Photographic, Simplification, 6/1 Mosqueras Romance, 12/1 How Many Times, 14/1 Quella, 25/1 Calling Birds, Laminka, Songful, Wusuul, 33/1 Vigorosa, 100/1 Camelot Queen, Ocean Countess.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Interesting to see how the market speaks about the newcomers, particularly Photogenic and Wadaat, but BISHAARA will be suited by the step up to this trip and can fulfil the promise she showed on her debut here last summer.[AC] |
Photographic leapfrogs into favouriatism (2/1) Joint 3rd fav a non runner
340 HEREFORD
BETTING FORECAST: 4/1 New Perk, Super Judge, 6/1 Martha´s Kinsman, 7/1 Fine By Me, River Indus, 8/1 Chabrimal Minster, L´Aventure, 10/1 Chiaro, 14/1 Master John, 20/1 Gallik Dawn.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: MARTHA'S KINSMAN can be given a good shout if forgiven his Doncaster failure, as this is very much his time of year (all bar one of his wins secured from January to March) and having to bypass Saturday's Midlands National on account of the ground could prove a blessing in disguise. Fine By Me, well handicapped and sure to handle the conditions better than most, is potentially dangerous with no weight.[AWJ] |
Movers Gallick Dawn (12/1) and Chiaro (6/1) -this is a very long distance race
350 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 5/2 Nothing Is Forever, 11/4 Simply Blue, 11/2 L´Eau Du Nil, 8/1 Quasar D´Oudairies, Royal Rationale, 10/1 Overstrand, 12/1 Ameeq, 20/1 Master Mahogany, 50/1 Amour Multiple, 100/1 Arthurs Dream.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Quite a competitive race but NOTHING IS FOREVER (nap), whose recent C&D second was advertised by Ski Sunday at Cheltenham, and Simply Blue look well handicapped and can dominate.[FC] |
Amour Multiple 25/1 in places (I would back to trade in running on this one incase the money is founded)
400 KEMP
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Friday's Wolverhampton winner FAITHFUL RULER (nap) is only 4lb higher here and over a trip that suits he can follow up at the expense of the consistent pair Ocean Legend and Totally Focussed.[AC] |
Why is Soccerjackpot 8/1 in places? Fav has hardened after win at Wolves last time
420 TAUNT
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Bench Warrent, 7/2 Long Hop, 11/2 Estate, 8/1 Mickmacmagoole, 10/1 Lord Shark, Strong Rebel, 14/1 Calusa Charlie, 25/1 Joli Classical.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: The field is made up of novices and more-experienced handicappers in equal proportions. Estate appeals most of the older brigade but preference is for BENCH WARRENT who does not look overburdened despite top weight.[FC] |
Strong Rebel 11/2 in palces
440 HEREFORD
BETTING FORECAST: 4/5 Zazamix, 2/1 Tzora, 16/1 Megabill, Sail And Return, 20/1 Dingat, Mizzurka, 25/1 Katmai, 33/1 Mohi Rahrere, Rock Of Dubai, Star King, 100/1 Jamaica Storm.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: ZAZAMIX had very different ground to contend with when making his winning debut but Nicky Henderson evidently doesn't envisage today's surface presenting a problem and, as the form of that Newbury race has worked out so well, it will be disappointing should he fail to follow up. Tzora is the standout threat.[AWJ] |
McCoy on the fav, one of only 2 under 16/1 but this is a bumper so market movers and "dark horses" may emerge 1.11 to place
450 TAUNT
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Cava Bien is yet another example of Tim Vaughan's expertise with recruits from other stables and any market confidence would be significant on his return from a 314-day break. However, a tempting alternative is MANLY MONEY who has gone well fresh in the past, looks on a fair mark and comes from a yard that's back in good form this month.[SB] |
Read Spotlight - fav now 2/1 in places. Wild Ground 4/1 in places
SHORTLIST
220 TAUNTON Alfadora purely because it's Choc Thornton and Alan King - but joint favs - that said 1.3 is enticing
300 KEMPTON - Dishdasha 1.14 to place , 3 places in an 8 runner race. I am not wholly confident in Frankie Spencer at times. He has the uncanny ability at times of getting a fav beaten, not just beaten BUT unplaced. But the place only price does not indicate this today.
Negatives - up 10 lbs
320 TAUNTON - Leading Contender 1.12 to place in a race where there's 2 perceived outsiders - not a rock solid selection BUT approaching this from a probability perspective, the fav only has to stay upright over 2 miles 7 and beat the outsiders to place ( priced at 20/1 and 66/1)
440 HEREFORD - Zazamix - 1.11 to place but in a bumper - need to follow the market BUT McCoy on board
ONE A DAY
Clearly Leading Contender is the probability bet of the day and at 1.12 we are backing the horse to NOT FALL, and beat the 20/1 and 66/1 shots who hopefully will run to their prices. This is not the safest bet of all time for me (no Kauto Star this one!!)-Leading has a new jockey on board which I don't like to see normally, and going over his previous form he has been beaten before at 4/11 (into 2nd place)
Worth risking today I think
