23/1

Yesterday seemed to be enhanced bet day, most prominently in the Bilbao v Real Madrid match where Bilbao took the lead and so nearly went 0-2 up. Now that would have been a late Xmas present. Genk v St Truiden was another good enhanced bet 2 days previously. Even a scan of soccerstats saw a mismatch and St Truiden took the lead, allowing the favs to go out to over evens from 1.4 at the start. They eventually won 2-1. So do watch out for reactive/enhanced trades. They are plentiful.
And we have to tread warily this month in the Premiership what with the African Cup of Nations and the Transfer Market , and key absentees. Look at Suarez missing for Liverpool.

745pm - Southampton v Leicester - 1.85 home
HEAD TO HEADS

27.08.2011LChLeicester City3-2Southampton
11.03.2008LChSouthampton1-0Leicester City
05.01.2008CupSouthampton2-0Leicester City

LEAGUE POSITION - 2nd v 15th. A win takes Saints top on goal difference.

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Southampton

RECENT HOME FORM - WWWWWWWWWWDWL - sole defeat at home a 0-1 v Bristol city (19th) - tend to win 2-1, 2-0 against teams around Leicester in the league places

RECENT FORM OVERALL - WWWWLWLDDWLLW - only 2 wins in last 7 matches a sign of Saints struggling? In 4 of those defeats, Saints did not score. This would seem to be the way to catch them out. DEFENCE!They only failed to score in 1 at home and that was a defeat.

GOAL TRENDS - 70% overs at home down to Saints scoring 2+ regularly. Only 2 of last 5 have been over 2.5 goals though. Saints have failed to score in 2 of last 3, against 10th and 19th. HAve scored 18 and conceded 4 in first half hour of matches and scored 14 in last 1/4 hour of matches. Saints start and finish well. Lambert and Prado have scored 19 of their 25 goals at home. They don't play and Saints are in trouble it would seem. So check team news if you can.

STREAKS - 4 overall without a draw.

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Leicester

RECENT AWAY FORM - WDDDDLLWDLLW - only 3 away wins v Burnley, Palace, and Coventry.Have played 5 of top 6 away ( playing 6th today) and lost 3-2, draw 0-0, 0-0, 2-1 loss, 2-0 loss. It could pay to back 0-0 as a saver if Leicester can draw against 3rd and 4th .

RECENT OVERALL FORM - LWLWDWLDLDDWL - in 7 of last 8 matches, the match was 1-1 at some stage and finished 1-1 on 3 occasions. Perhaps this 1-1 is a good correct score trading point? ( and with me having just mentioned the 0-0's!!!?). Leicester are not winning when they score a single goal. Score 2 and they win. They tend to concede so if they cannot score 2 today against Saints, they will not win ( if the trend continues.) And with Saints struggling to score of late in some recent matches, this may be a cause for concern.

GOAL TRENDS - 50/50 overs away from home .Under 2.5 goals has been the general trend of late.As it to emphasise the 1-1 , Leicester have scored and conceded in all of last 7 matches

STREAKS - have scored in last 10 overall and conceded in last 7 overall. Scored and conceded in last 6 away matches.

CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - a toughie to call goals wise. yes Leicester have scored and conceded in last 6 away matches which suggests immediately that 1-1 might be a goer ( scuppered by a 2-0) as a trade. Saints tend to lose when they don't score and have lost 2 of 3 recently. But came back with a 0-3 away win v Forest. A win takes Saints top. Leicester have not win in 5 away to top 6, but 0-0's against 3rd and 4th away suggests possible 0-0 saver and a Saints back.
Reactive traders expecting Leicester to concede will of course lay Leicester/Back Saints if Leicester score first.

8pm - Villarreal v Gijon - 1.86 home
HEAD TO HEADS

13.03.2011D1Villarreal CF1-1Sporting Gijón
31.10.2010D1Sporting Gijón1-1Villarreal CF
10.04.2010D1Villarreal CF1-0Sporting Gijón
28.11.2009D1Sporting Gijón1-0Villarreal CF
21.02.2009D1Villarreal CF2-1Sporting Gijón

Wow - talk about tight . Gijon should be competitive here which may put into question the 1.86 for the Yellow Submarines.
LEAGUE POSITION - 19th v 18th. A real surprise to me that Villareal are 19th in a league of 20. What has gonre wrong?

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Villareal

RECENT HOME FORM - DWDLWWDD - only 1 loss at home but 4 draws , 3 of which were 2-2, all score draws. In 2 of the 2-2 draws, Villareal were leading. At first glance, poor form, but have been unable to close out games at home.

RECENT FORM OVERALL - DDDLLWDWLLDLDL - last 5 defeats all came away from home.

GOAL TRENDS - 50/50 overs at home and overall this season. Last 3 matches over 2.5 goals. Have conceded in last 6.

STREAKS - 2 match drawing streak at home.

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Gijon

RECENT AWAY FORM - LLLWDLWL - only one draw away was another 2-2 against bottom side. 5 defeats away to top 12 conceding either 2 or 4. Wins have come against 13th and 14th ( conceding in both) and 2-2 against bottom.

RECENT OVERALL FORM - WWDDWLLWLLW - 7 without a draw

GOAL TRENDS- 88% overs away from home. Have conceded in all away matches. Overwhelming overs for Gijon this season . Have only kept 2 clean sheets this season. 3 of last 4 defeats saw Gijon unable to score.

STREAKS - no draw in 7 overall. Have conceded in last 10 overall.

CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - I must say I don't like these types of matches, 19th v 18th -2 apparently struggling teams in relegation can lead to a match which is nervy, scrappy and unpredictable.
That said, what does my research indicate? Well Villareal at home have only lost 1 match. They are score drawing which suggests vulnerability in defence.  Gijon themselves have only had one draw and have beaten 13th and 14th away. They have tended to lose against top 12 away which suggests competitiveness here and the possibility that we might get mileage laying an odds on shot ( home team?)
What chance another score draw for Villareal? Points to overs ( if we assume the 2nd goal is scored at least before the 65th minute )

8pm - Olhanense v Sp Lisbon - 1.69 away
HEAD TO HEADS

13.08.2011D1Sporting Lisboa1-1SC Olhanense
12.02.2011D1SC Olhanense2-2Sporting Lisboa
11.09.2010D1Sporting Lisboa0-0SC Olhanense
20.02.2010D1SC Olhanense0-0Sporting Lisboa
21.09.2009D1Sporting Lisboa3-2SC Olhanense

Unable to split these 2 in head to heads. If that is the case, then 1.69 is a tad short for the away side?  Will the research indicate otherwise?

LEAGUE POSITION - 9th v 5th

HOME TEAM - -past fixtures, forthcoming fixtures and likely team -  Olhanense

RECENT HOME FORM - DLWWDLLW - wins against 6th, 10th and 14th  - playing 5th today and beat 6th 1-0 - a return to the tightness which haunted head to heads?

RECENT FORM OVERALL - WLWLDDLLLW - last 3  wins have come at home. 2 defeats recently were at home v 7th and 4th which saw Olhanense concede 4 and 2.

GOAL TRENDS - 63% overs at home. Last 3 matches over 2.5 goals, but 3 before those were unders. Have scored and conceded in last 3 overall.

STREAKS - 3 at home without a draw. No other strong streaks.

AWAY TEAM - past fixtures -forthcoming fixtures and likely team - Sp Lisbon

RECENT AWAY FORM - DWWWWLDL - recent defeats away to 1st and 3rd so no real shock. 1-1 v 7th and 0-0 v 10th hint at more tightness perhaps when playing 9th today?

RECENT OVERALL FORM - WWWWWLWDDL - looking at the LWDDL recently, we see that Sporting have only scored 0-1-1-0-1 -fair enough they played Porto, Benfica and Braga, but this is just the kind of recent goalscoring form which fits conveniently in with head to heads.

GOAL TRENDS - 37% overs away from home. 4 of last 5 matches under 2.5 goals.

STREAKS - 3 away without a win.

CONCLUSION/NOTES/STANDOUT STATS - tightness seems to pervade the form here, which belies the quote of 1.69 for Sporting Lisbon. I could see a 0-0, 1-1, 0-1 kind of scoreline and under 2.5 goals. I am always suspicious though of short odds. Maybe the market has this wrong?
0-0 starters to back to lay trade?
Sporting have only scored 0-1-1-0-1 recently which , if continuing, helps the unders quote. If we assume the win, then if they can only score 1 , it will be 0-1
