23/12

No horse racing today and a decision whether to go with top flight in form Groningen away to Genemuiden. If this were the English Cup, would the ITV cameras be paying a visit in the hope of an upset? Well, with Genemuiden losing their last 2 home matches, and with Groningen's next match not until the new year, there should be no excuses from the latter's manager regarding fielding a weakened side.

I am going to chance it given the gulf in class here , but will take my cues from Besiktas yesterday ( 3-0 up and game ended 3-2 - could have been a nightmare!) and trade if a comfortable scoreline for Groningen.
I am aware of the risks inherent in Cup matches, but see an inform Groningen which should not be weakened as it is the last match of the year.

545pm - Genemuiden v Groningen - back Groningen away from home at 1.26 - this match is in running so do look to trade. Speculators might want to look at over 2.5 goals incase this gulf in class really shines through

Southwell lets me down again
Inthesettlement pulled hard when runner-up on her debut at Aintree and again took a keen grip in the first part of the race. She made smooth headway on the home turn but found little when let down in this deep ground. Getting herto settle is vital to her chances of success.

Deep ground? I would, as you know, not bet in heavy ground. A real pity as Bivouac won and Besiktas were 3-0 up in the blink of an eye.

545pm - Genemuiden v Groningen - 1.26 away - in running Dutch Cup match. Top flight v Topklasse ( and I suspect Topklasse is not quite Top Class)
Groningen have performed tidily recently in the top flight with only 3 losses in last 12 matches with 3 wins and a draw in their last 5 matches.
2,0,4,2,2 the number of goals scored by Groningen in their last 5 matches is a good sign for goals, and as with Besiktas yesterday, there is nothing better than a cup game with a big gulf in class.
Genemuiden have lost their last 4 in their league so are ideally out of form for Groningen backers.
Gwenemuiden have lost their last 2 at home while Groningen's form is poor to say the least away from home. 5 losses a draw and a win away from home in last 7 ( but we must account for top flight opponents)
What of the weather? I don't know. Or the team news? Well the team should not be weakened as this is the last match until 23rd January 2011.

And that is that for today.
A 10/1 quote for Genemuiden pretty much sums up the task ahead.
Do we dismiss the general poor away form of Groningen ( as it was against far better teams) and in its stead acknowledge a side who have only lost 3 in their last 12 and have 3 wins and a draw in their last 5 matches, against a side who have lost their last 2 matches?
