4/9

These were the words I was greeted with prior to the 350 Salisbury yesterday

3:40pm

And they bet

For the Listed race, it's 13-8 Conniption, 3-1 Shamandar, 100-30 Walk On Water.

With the rain falling heavily once more, there is little activity in the ring

3:34pm

More rain soon

Another dark cloud is racing towards the racecourse. Steve Drowne, after riding in the fourth, said:"After the latest rain the ground is getting quite testing."

The result? I didn't bother with this bet because these are 2 year olds in testing going.
But Conniption went to 1.5 or thereabouts in running allowing for an excellent trade out of the win only odds (which drifted to 3.15) ,but was eventually unplaced and although I was focussed on the win only odds, I am sure the placae only odds reduced allowing for a tradeable situation (?)
As things stood, a no bet day for me ( as a couple of readers who were on yahoo messenger will attest to as I warned them against this bet) - BRing back live chat (once the broadband is stabalised!!)

Everything placed yesterday and I believe here were no hiccups in the tennis.

220 LINGFIELD
BETTING FORECAST: Evs Rare Malt, 4/1 Wajanaat, 5/1 Gifted Apakay, 9/1 Mr Mahoganeigh, 10/1 Favorite Woods, 20/1 High On A Hill, Taper Jean Girl, 33/1 Bathcounty, Edward Lear, The Cardinal´s Hat, 66/1 Primrose Bankes, 100/1 Zeloca.

DIOMED VERDICT: RARE MALT could easily give Kieren Fallon a great return to action.

Price gapper here and any coincidence that a certain K FAllon is in the saddle? Surely underpriced because it's his first ride back
Looked at independently, form of 42 is progressive but this is another maiden race with many debutants 1.14 to place

230 CATTERICK
BETTING FORECAST: Evs Comedy Hall, 5/1 Mad Millie, 6/1 Jack Luey, 7/1 Mercers Row, 14/1 Layla´s Prince, Saucy Girl, 20/1 Layla´s Lexi, 25/1 Timeless Elegance, 33/1 Magical Macey, 50/1 Redoubtable Grace, Safari Camp, 100/1 Burtondale Boy, Orpen All Hours.

DIOMED VERDICT: If COMEDY HALL is as effective under these conditions as when pipped on Fibresand at Southwell last week, he should come up trumps.

Key word in Diomed's comments is "if" -yes a Johnston juvenile but tackling soft round for the first time 1.3 to place

300 CATTERICK
BETTING FORECAST: 11/8 Darcey, 9/2 Captain Imperial, 5/1 Versaki, 8/1 Whispering Spirit, 12/1 Ask Dan, 14/1 Hettie Hubble, Nchike, 20/1 Digit, 25/1 Africa´s Star, Sardan Dansar, 50/1 Scotch And Soda, 100/1 Ready For Battle, Taguna.

DIOMED VERDICT: The hat-trick seeking Darcey has to be respected but these conditions will suit the downgraded CAPTAIN IMPERIAL who returned to form last time.

Fav is on a hatrick today but when last running on soft came 9th of 9 1.19 to place

Now there was a horse yesterday called Tangerine Trees ( check out t's form on the Racing Post if you want) - this horse was on a 4 timer yesterday in a handicap. He won all of his last 3 races by a neck (this told me he was JUST scraping the wins) and he was up 6lbs yesterday ( surely this will bridge the gap a lot more) - he was an excellent lay
This could be another similar case with Darcey today - just thought I'd bring it o your attention - add to that the act this is a 13 runner class 6 claimer and ,well, I certainly wouldn't be backing with this softening ground

320 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 2/1 Roodee King, 11/4 Avrilo, 5/1 Chantilly Jewel, 11/2 Riggs, 6/1 Anfield Star, 17/2 Little Lost, 33/1 Chenin, 40/1 Spring Bridge.

DIOMED VERDICT: Roodee King should give it a good shot in a weak race, but the marginal vote goes to AVRILO.

Guess who's on board and again a hint at perhaps a false price 1.26 to place

350 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 2/1 Street Power, 4/1 Jaconet, 8/1 Diriculous, 9/1 Viking Spirit, 10/1 Desert Icon, 11/1 Dark Mischief, 12/1 Alfresco, Asaint Needs Brass, 14/1 Sir Edwin Landseer, 18/1 Baunagain, 20/1 Fault, 25/1 Frognal.

DIOMED VERDICT: STREET POWER has been in unstoppable form recently and can make it 6-8 on Polytrack this year.

Like Tangerine Trees, this one is on a 4 timer, but unline Tangerine, won with 3 lengths to spare last time and is priced to go in again , but winning runs must end soon - the conundrum is picking the right race for them to end. You'll have seen wit Valid point last night that he managed anoter win and was priced similar to Street power 1.33 to place

450 LINGFIELD
BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 Bab Al Salam, 4/1 Mutamaashi, 5/1 Brett Vale, 7/1 Almuktahem, 8/1 Norwegian Dancer, 17/2 Everynight, 9/1 Stan´s Cool Cat, 12/1 Satwa Gold, 16/1 Fullback.

DIOMED VERDICT: Bab Al Salam should go close in his bid to make it 3-3, but slight preference is for MUTAMAASHI.

Another won twice - Ted Durcan on board ad Mutamaashi the nearest rival 1.49 and 1.66 the front 2

520 LINGFIELD
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Brief Look, 7/2 Putra One, 9/2 Becausewecan, 11/2 General Ting, 8/1 Kansai Spirit, 17/2 Maslak, 9/1 Norman The Great, 14/1 Evident Pride, 25/1 Mister New York.

DIOMED VERDICT: BRIEF LOOK gets the vote ahead of Putra One and Becausewecan in an intriguing handicap.

Brief look 8/11 now and Johnston's Becausewecan is a non runner 1.17 to place

750 KEMPTON
BETTING FORECAST: 9/4 Eolith, 3/1 Arte Viva, 4/1 Awaseef, 6/1 Art Machine, Eldalil, 12/1 Vanilla Loan, 33/1 Madame Boot, 50/1 Mini Max.

DIOMED VERDICT: Some interesting newcomers but EOLITH can put her previous experience to good use.

Maidens aplenty tonight -Eolith of interest - only 4 under 20/1 and 7 runners now ( hopefully still 3 places 1.26 to place

920 KEMPTON
BETTING FORECAST: Evs Lady Hestia, 7/1 Warrior Conquest, 10/1 Colourful Move, Where´s Susie, 12/1 Coda Agency, 14/1 Gandalf, Jadalee, Mista Rossa, 16/1 Whaxaar, 20/1 Inchpast, Salt Lake, 66/1 Sir Jake, 100/1 Silver Surprise.

DIOMED VERDICT: Hard to look beyond LADY HESTIA, who looks capable of running up a sequence.

Have they saved the best til last - evens - - - -

Have they saved the best til last? Evens - - - - 12/1 is the price gap in the live market which is hugely eyecatching even with some 8 hours til race time!! 1.26 to place

FOOTBALL
Germany's ladies are 1/8 aainst the Italian ladies today and there will be no messing about with teams today as this is a MUST win for the Germans( RTE showed the Fawlty towers Germans episode last night - a happy omen?) 1.15 for the win

England's under 21's are 1/3 away to Macedonia today
Bosnia under 21's are 1/8 against Luxembourg
German under 21's are 1/66 v San Marino (look at goals here for enhanced bets or half time) - it's a pity the markets are so illiquid in this match - no interest at all at time of writing
Elsewhere Portugal, Spain and Holland are all very short in their prospective under 21 matches

SHORTLIST
520 LING is the first race of interest for me with Brief Look now 8/11 and strongly fancied in the win market
750 KEMPTON - Eolith faces 7 runners ( and only has to beat 4 to place) 3 places here and 1.26 currently
920 Kempton - Lady Hestia really is the queen of the price gappers today and 1.26 is massive if the price gap is indicative of the likely chances.
Germany ladies are 1.15 v the Italian ladies and this is likely to need some patience from backers before a German breakthough if the interviews at the Fifa website are anythingto go by - Italy beat 10 woman England so I cannot really read much into that

ONE A DAY
Well Ze Germans are 1.15 and first up and I will chance them at 1.15 on BEtfair with the option to trade if they make an early breakthrough.
Like all one a day bets, it will be a shock if Italy won
920 Kempton, just going by the price gap, looks to be the strongest horse bet BUT will require looking at nearer the off given the time of the race.
Would be interesting to see how Fallon gets on on the fancied ones today
