15/12

Abbevillian placed yesterday.

TODAY'S ONE A DAY BET

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BETFAIR WEBSITE IS DOWN AT THE MOMENT SO I CANNOT PROVIDE A GUIDE PRICE TO YOU, SAVE FOR THE MANCHESTER UNITED MATCH THIS EVENING ,WHERE UNITED WERE AROUND 1.17

I cannot check the price for the 145 Cork Morning Supreme to guage whether it is big enough or not to be considered.Paddy Power provide a price of 1.05 but Betfair is normally more competitive. The other option is Manchester United who can be backed with the major bookmakers

Start with football today

Leeds v Accrington Stanley - Johnstone's Paint Trophy, so the first question is "motivation?"
You will recall how Leeds had problems with Kettering despite total dominance. What strength of side will be put out by Leeds? 2 draws on the trot for Leeds, and these sequences generally end when they are expected to ( the price for Leeds indicates as much today)
Accrington are in a lower league than Leeds, but will be buoyed by 3 wins on the trot ,including the scalp of money men, Notts County away from home, scoring 8 in their last 3 games.
Manchester United v Wolves - great away win for Wolves, and SURPRISE away win, at Spurs perhaps said more about Spurs than Wolves as they parked the bus for 87 minutes.
Dare Man Utd lose 1-0 again at home? This will not be tolerated by Fergie surely.
Wolves, regardless of their 1-0 win, have lost conceding 4 goals each against the 2 established top 4 sides that they have met ,Arsenal and Chelsea.
This is usually a guide I use as to the expected scoreline for Man Utd this evening, all things being equal.
With Man Utd losing 1-0 at home, and Wolves winning 1-0 away in their last games, surely this will not happen again
Wolves are on a 2 game winning streak which could be a confidence booster.
Of slight concern is Man Utd's general home form bar 2-0's and 3-0's against Bolton and Everton. All other matches have been tight affairs with one goal difference ensuring the win.
Perhaps not the nailed on bet that it might first appear?
Prior to Villa, United scored 11 in 3 games.
There are sequences here that could be broken tonight
- 1-0 scorelines for both sides
-United rarely go 2 games on the trot at home losing, much less by 1-0
-Wolves are on a 2 game winning sequence and this is the longest sequence this season.
York City v Hinkley - FA Trophy - York unbeaten at home in the league, but a few 1-0's mean they only just do enough.
0-0 at Hinkley and the 1-0's I mention in York's recent results suggest the 1/3 for the home side requires a degree of faith.

HORSE RACING

Heavy ground at Cork and Folkstone today makes life difficult, as does the general make up of the races.

1250 CATTERICK

BETTING FORECAST: 11/8 Spellchecker, 4/1 Jim Tango, 5/1 Starbougg, 13/2 The Kealshore Kid, 8/1 Stuff Of Dreams, 11/1 Hazy Oaks, 20/1 Major Card, 28/1 Mysterious World, 40/1 Fencote Mystery.
DIOMED VERDICT: SPELLCHECKER was making an encouraging start to his chasing career when taking a crashing fall at the last fence at Sedgefield and, providing his confidence hasn't been dented, he can take advantage of a drop in grade.

9 runners and 3 places but a maiden chase and the favourite was a previous faller which shows that newcomers to these big fences require faith when backing.

3 horses at 20/1 or bigger here should leave 6 fighting for 3 places - if Spellchecker stays upright, he should be competitive

145 CORK

Ruby takes the flight to Cork for the ride on Mullins Mornign Supreme, now 1/3 in the live betting. This is always a good sign when the betting forecast price is noticeably shorter.

The horse is a winner for this jockey in heavy ground so is proven on the ground.

320 CATTERICK

BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 County Colours, 9/2 Fairynuff, Sheepclose, 8/1 Bay Rebel, 11/1 Morello Mist, 16/1 Indigo Symphony, Mannered, Smudger, 20/1 Classical Dilemma, The Wayward Lord, 28/1 Berrydale Covert, 33/1 Plaisir De Montot, 40/1 Ma´s Bar, 50/1 Maura My Love, Morecambe Bay, The Tiddly Tadpole.
DIOMED VERDICT: Several of those with experience may be open to improvement and market support for any of the newcomers would be significant but COUNTY COLOURS makes the most appeal as thing stand.

County Colours has run over course and distance on his seasonal debut and acquitted himself well.

A big field here and a bumper to boot, meaning that the market needs consultation. The Tiddly Tadpole is a very big market mover at time of writing. There are only 5 horses under 20/1 but the Tiddly Tadpole would have to be included in calculations given the massive apparent price move.

SHORTLIST

145 CORk - Morning Supreme's betting forecast price has been battered down to 1/3 in the live betting and the fact that Ruby Walsh makes the journey back to Cork to take the ride is significant I think. Betfair is down at present so I cannot guage whether the place only price offers value or not.

MANCHESTER UNITED V WOLVES - let me ask you a question! What is the likelihood that a team who lost 1-0 at home at the weekend will lose 1-0 at home again to a team that won 1-0 away from home when not even expected to.

I take my guide here from the results Wolves have had against Arsenal and Chelsea (2 of the top 4 into which Manchester United belong) -Wolves conceded 4 goals on both occasions.

I cannot see them being as lucky as they were against a Spurs side who replicated their 1-0 defeat to Stoke.

Add into the mix that Fergie will not tolerate another loss at home especially against relegation fodder, and we have an opportunity I think this evening to gain recompense for Saturday's misfiring, by opposing Wolves again.

With Betfair down, I am unable to scour the other-than-match-odds markets for anything
