16/12

Football wise, Anderlecht look like the motivated side here against bottom and nothing-to-play-for Hajduk Split - Faith in Anderlecht at a decent enough 1.38 ( I would think about trading this 1.38 as it should drop well with an Anderlecht goal or lead.

The cards today are miles away in quality from yesterday's imperious Fairyhouse card, but I look towards Ireland, the Mullins Mafia and Popcorn. The price gap is eye catching indeed ; my only concern , as ever, is in reading bumper markets far too early - there are 3 newcomers here who could concievably push Popcorn out of the places.

****335 CLONMEL - POPCORN TO PLACE**** - I hope the price gap is representative of this horse's chances.

I was hoping it wasn't going to be one of those days when all bar the selection places/wins! Luckily that wasn't the case.

Yesterday was a prime example of a day when there were 4-5 one a days just with the horse racing ( just like Masterminded, Time for Rupert and Cue card at Cheltenham recently). And no doubt a day will come along at Southwell's all weather surface featuring the biggest load of donkeys you are ever likely to see and there will not be a quality horse in sight!!

If only there was a way to load up in quality ( and yesterday was true quality) days.

As to football - I hope you learned a lesson yesterday - Liverpool's match was a dead rubber - and the result? 0-0
Dinamo Kiev did not need to win - result 0-0
The only exception was Porto who played a team with zilch to play for and won 3-1
Napoli NEEDED a win , and got one , albeit in the 90th minute down to 10 men.

Quite simply, when games are dead rubbers, we lay and don't back!

1200pm - Philippines v Indonesia - 1.26 away - 6 draws in and 3 wins in last 9 for Philippines. Indonesia have won their last 6 but don't get carried away, they have been playing the might of Maldives, Laos, East Timor and Taiwan.
From the collateral form, it would seem the odds are about right. Philippines and Laos was 2-2 when Indonesia beatn Laos 6-0.
Goals perhaps could be a safer option today. Illiquid 1.17 over 1.5 goals today

6pm -
Leverkusen v Atl Madrid - we enter must win territory again with Atl Madrid, the holders in another set of Europa League fixtures, and must wins often do win, but Leverkusen are no mugs. 2nd on 7 points with Aris with Leverkusen top
"
Group B
With Leverkusen assured top spot, the big question is whether defending champions Atlético can escape an early exit when they visit the group winners. Atlético's fate is not in their own hands – they lie third, level on seven points with second-placed Aris, and need to better the result of the Greek team who have beaten them home and away. If that was not enough reason for Atlético to worry, Aris have the advantage of a final fixture at home to bottom-placed Rosenborg BK."

"

Facing a concluding Group B fixture away to section winners Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Atlético must better the result achieved by second-placed Aris Thessaloniki FC – who host Rosenborg BK – in order to maintain their interest in this year's competition.

"Although we are going to Germany with only victory in mind, we know we are not depending solely on ourselves," said Portuguese international Tiago, recognising that a win for the second-placed Greek side at their Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium would seal the holders' elimination."

1-1 in head to heads and a tight nervy match in prospect tonight. Last 12 Madrid matches have been over 1.5 goals which is a great stat, infact it goes back to last 16 matches.

2 3-2 losses in last 4 signal potential for goals and potential for collapse.

7 wins and 3 draws in last 10 for Leverkusen with only 1 loss in last 12 - only 2 losses in last 22 matches -they must be a confident lot at present.

Only 2 losses in last 12 for Leverkusen at home. Leverkusen are another team with nothing to play for, having assured top spot, but look in very good form at present.

Leverkusen are unbeaten in eight European games (six wins and two draws) since a 4-1 home loss to FC Zenit St Petersburg in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup quarter-finals.

• Leverkusen boast the best defensive record in the group stage, having conceded just once in their five Group B fixtures.

6pm -
Lille v Gent - 1.41 home - a draw seems enough for Gent to get 2nd place. A win ensures Lille get 2nd place so this is , pretty much, a must win for both sides.

"a real do-or-die match" in Group C. " - what bettors want to see.

Now Lille backers at 1.41 will be salivating with the positive noises coming from the Lille management
"

LOSC Lille Métropole coach Rudi Garcia will not allow his side to sacrifice European football for a tilt at the Ligue 1 title, demanding his players secure the victory at home to KAA Gent in Group C that will send them through to the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

The Belgian side have a two-point advantage heading to northern France and Garcia is expecting his charges to overturn the deficit at the Stade Lille Métropole as they approach their domestic winter break at the top of the French table. "We don't have to choose between being autumn champions and qualifying for the Europa League round of 32," said the 46-year-old. "It is simple: we have to go for the victory.

"Our results so far have allowed us to play this decider; it's a real do-or-die match," he added. "We now have experience of high-profile European football and are able to compete. We want to continue playing in this competition next spring. Being knocked out would be a big disappointment but we're not even thinking about that."

Five points from as many matches, including a 1-1 draw at Gent on Matchday 2, have left the two-time French champions on the brink of elimination but captain Rio Mavuba insists they have put any previous disappointments to the back of their minds. "We don't have any regrets about past matches because our qualification hopes are still alive and we're doing well in Ligue 1," said the 26-year-old. "We certainly don't want to have any regrets after tomorrow. It's almost a derby and we want to win."

In simplistic terms, the French League is better than the Belgian league which is dominated by the few.

And from the Gent corner

Gent coach Francky Dury believes his side will progress, however, now they have adapted to European football, winning their last two matches after taking just a point from their opening three games. "It's not the same Lille team as when we last met but it's not the same Gent either," he said. "It's a good challenge; a difficult match for both teams. Qualifying tomorrow would be a real achievement, especially since we started so badly. We still haven't got a single point in our away matches, though, so we can't afford to get ahead of ourselves."

Playing for the draw the Buffalos need to progress alongside section winners Sporting Clube de Portugal is not on the agenda for midfielder Christophe Lepoint. "We won't wait for them but will play our own match," said the 26-year-old. "We'll be wary of Eden Hazard – we know he is a class act – but won't pay too much attention to him. We may not get another chance like this in our careers, so we have to seize this opportunity and give it all we have got."

WWWLWWWW for Lille at home in recent matches is welcome for this must win.

Well, we know they are both going for it - but will the better league dominate? Will home advantage help the 1.41 favs?

805pm - Anderlecht v Hajduk Split - 1.38 home - domestically solid at home are Anderlecht

"

RSC Anderlecht need a home win against bottom side HNK Hajduk Split as well as a big favour from Group G winners FC Zenit St Petersburg if they are to reach the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

• Ariël Jacobs' men are three points adrift of second-placed AEK Athens FC in the group, but have a superior head-to-head record, meaning they will go through if they beat Hajduk and Zenit maintain their 100% record in the section in Athens."

Must win v nothing to play for - enough to side with the home side here against bottom basement? Only loss in last 12 at home came against Zenit, group leaders.
3 losses in last 5 away for Split could be just what Anderlecht need.

805pm - Stuttgart v OB - 1.43 home - ultimately meaningless for both sides. OB could finish 3rd but what consolation is that? A dead rubber here and we saw, overwhelmingly yesterday, the case for leaving dead rubbers alone.

335 CLONMEL

BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 Popcorn, 6/1 Boro Bee, 6/1 Fourth Class, 8/1 Jammia, 8/1 Monart Lantern, 10/1 Around A Pound, 10/1 Big Shu, 10/1 Simonay, 12/1 Ellikath, 14/1 Galbally King.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: This looks a good opportunity for POPCORN to win at the third attempt. Boro Bee would be an interesting opponent if none the worse after her long absence, and newcomers Fourth Class and Jammia are also worth a look. [Alan Sweetman]

Price gapper here in this bumper and as you know by now, bumpers are ideally suited to market consultation 10 minutes before the off.

Soft ground at Clonmel.

The Mullins /Mullins win machine are represented by Popcorn. 11/10 - - - - 8/1 in the live betting market accentuates the price gap. Has had a recent run.

1250 EXETER

BETTING FORECAST: 5/2 Silver Gypsy, 3/1 Naughty Naughty, 100/30 Mizzurka, 10/1 Dun See Dee, 12/1 Setter´s Princess, 14/1 Overnight Fame, 16/1 Tsarinova, 20/1 Karinga Dream, 20/1 Lady Everywhere, 25/1 Calico Rose, 25/1 Sapphire Rouge, 33/1 Catch The Rascal, 33/1 Misstaysia, 40/1 Ballestra, 66/1 Marybelle, 100/1 Just Lola, 100/1 Old Dungarvan Oak, 100/1 Rolline.

It looks significant that Tony McCoy has opted to partner triple bumper scorer MIZZURKA rather than form pick Naughty Naughty (who he has partnered the last twice) and the hint is worth taking. Silver Gypsy may be flattered by an official rating of 130 but looks the pick of the others.[Frank Carter]

The betting hints at 5 under 20/1 being involved for the places - faith in the 9/4 favourite Silver Gypsy?

150 EXETER

BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Royal Charm, 5/2 Sports Line, 3/1 Chapoturgeon, 15/2 Leo´s Lucky Star, 20/1 Or Bleu.

Royal Charm is likely to be a warm order after his classy chasing debut here last month but faces a much more severe task in this company, notably against SPORTS LINE who acquitted himself well against some of the best novices last season and has an edge in experience.[Frank Carter]

Novice chasers, no matter how great they are over hurdles, always come with a small wealth warning - this should be a 3 horse race ( bar a fall) and Nicholls Royal Charm is strong currently at 10/11

320 EXETER

BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Wymott, 4/1 Adams Island, 4/1 Definity, 6/1 Hopeful Start, 8/1 Frontier Dancer, 14/1 Flight Leader, 25/1 John´s Gift, 33/1 Shalimar Fromentro.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Although faced with a tougher task than at Bangor, the highly promising WYMOTT should make it 2-2 over fences, with the return to 3m in his favour. The unknown one is Definity, who is from a top yard and has to be respected, while the more rain the better Adams Island's chance. [Mark Brown]

8 runners and 3 places here and 2 only under 10/1 in Wymott and Definity. Trust these as this is a novices chase event again ( L plates on)

1230 SOUTHWELL

BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 If You Whisper, 7/4 Woop Woop, 7/2 Mazovian, 66/1 Bold Deceiver, 66/1 Ippi N Tombi.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: If You Whisper sets the standard, albeit a BHA mark of 78 looks very steep, but WOOP WOOP is open to plenty of improvement at this longer trip and may improve past him. Mazovian does at least bring Fibresand form to the table and can't be ignored, even though his stamina seemed to give way last week.[Paul Smith]

3 only under 66/1 here and a great probability race - a 2 year old maiden - faith in the market?

SHORTLIST

1200pm - Philippines v Indonesia - 1.26 away - looking at the collateral form,. Indonesia should have the edge here but these are 2 most unreliable international teams.
