31/1

Blue Tomato placed in a great probability race with 8 runners reduced to 6 and a couple of outsiders who played no part at the business end. Watch out for these probability races as they are invariably far easier to find place only candidates

130 SANDOWN
BETTING FORECAST: 4/7 Optimus Maximus, 11/4 Amore Mio, 10/1 Benedict Spirit, 12/1 Forget It, 25/1 Purely By Chance, 40/1 Double Parked.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Benedict Spirit and Forget It have fair Flat form and the former has won twice on Fibresand this winter, so they are not entirely ruled out, but OPTIMUS MAXIMUS and Amore Mio set a decent standard on their hurdling efforts last time out and it looks worth sticking with the Henderson runner after his impressive Newbury win on soft ground

Soft ground to contend with as well as only 2 horses to place over jumps. But only 2 sub 10/1 in the betting forecast and mirrored in the live betting market 1.15 to place

145 WETHERBY

BETTING FORECAST: 11/8 River Shanakill, 5/2 Luccombe Bay, 3/1 Stick Together, 10/1 Stormy Waters, Tastes Like More, 20/1 Crow Spinney, 200/1 Miss Tosca, Oyashshecan.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Stick Together is a potential improver now raised in trip but so is RIVER SHANAKILL, who was much too good for the Jefferson horse when they clashed at Newcastle in November and, having been granted an entry only this week for one of the novice events at Cheltenham, she's clearly not lost the faith of her connections, despite an odds-on failure last time.

8 runner field with 2 clear outsiders and 3 under 10/1 BUT Tastes Like More now 7/2 as I write - why the discrepancy between betting forecaster and live market?
River 1.41
Luccumbe 1.48
TAstes 1.66
Stick 1.83
All relatively big place only prices

155 DONCASTER
BETTING FORECAST: 9/4 Copper Bleu, 5/2 Master Of Arts, 7/2 Marc Aurele, 5/1 King´s Forest, 12/1 Fassaroe, 14/1 Burnt Oak, 25/1 North Parade, 100/1 Bold Adventure, Newgate.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Copper Bleu looks the best of the three previous hurdles winners but he faces no easy task under a penalty against a couple of interesting hurdling newcomers from top yards, MASTER OF ARTS and Marc Aurele. Sir Mark Prescott's stable has been an excellent source of hurdling talent down the years and Master of Arts, now with David Pipe, could well turn out to be smart. He's given a narrow vote ahead of his ex-French rival.

Fassaroe is out and 3 are 50/1 or over. Copper Bleu's price has been clipped and he looks solid at the head of the market in what looks a 4 horse race with Burnt Oak on the fringes 1.18 to place

205 SANDOWN
BETTING FORECAST: Evs Celestial Halo, 7/4 Osana, 9/2 Afsoun, 20/1 Alph, 50/1 Dusky Lord, 100/1 The Big Orse.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Afsoun made a step back in the right direction last time but should be outgunned if either Osana or CELESTIAL HALO (nap) are near their best. In receipt of 4lb and following a most encouraging reappearance, the 2008 Triumph Hurdle winner has to be the choice

Again 2 the place but only 3 sub 20/1 and Celestial HAlo now odds on for Ruby and Nicholls 1.22 to place

245 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 8/13 Theatre Street, 5/2 Under Review, 8/1 Theta Wave, 16/1 Alimarr, 33/1 Countrywide Jaime, 50/1 Thoosa.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Market confidence behind newcomer Under Review with Jamie Spencer booked would be significant in a maiden with no strength in depth, but THEATRE STREET sets a a fair standard and can make it third time lucky.

A 5 furlong maiden - yikes
3 sub 20/1 in the live market with the race looking a toss between Theatre and Under with Theatre odds on and Under clipped into 7/4 ( 6/4 in places) Under review is a maiden with Spencer on board
1.2 and 1.4 to place in an illiquid market
420 SANDOWN
BETTING FORECAST: 3/1 Killaghy Castle, 4/1 Good Company, 11/2 I Hear A Symphony, Lorient Express, 13/2 Almaydan, 7/1 Oneway, Vinmix De Bessy, 25/1 Nikola, 40/1 Sou´Wester.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Killaghy Castle and Vinmix De Bessy have obvious potential to outperform these handicap marks but GOOD COMPANY has shown already this term that he is on his way up the ladder and is taken to follow up his win on soft ground at Haydock.[

Good company now 2/1 with Oneway out - the McCoy factor? 1.56 to palce - a big price in what the betting forecast indicates is a tight race

ONE A DAY

Very tricky today for me with a lot of apparent good things in 2 the place races in soft ground over the jumps. hardly ideal and "nailed on" One fall and you're out of the game.
Also you need to be spot on with only 2 places
Celestial Halo looks standout today at the prices - 1.22 in what looks a 3 horse race. The only hope is the horse stays upright.

There are niggles in the other races
145 WETh - market mover may be accurate or misleading - we don't know - place only prices are relatively big here too
155 DON - Copper Bleu under a penalty in soft
245 LING - 5 furlong maiden with a newcomer attracting interest - only 2 places
420 SANDOWN - despite the McCoy factor, this is a tight race if the betting is anything to go by

Friday 30 January 2009

30/1

Pride of Dulcote just squeezed a victory by ,erm, 28 lengths, and Barcelona , well, what's the footballing term? ,pissed it!
I think I am far too cautious with heavy ground - is the heavy ground factored into the prices? Neil Harvey actually won and in certain circumstances I think prices may include the horses' chances in heavy

130 CATTERICK
BETTING FORECAST: 11/4 La Fortalesa, 3/1 River Ardeche, 11/2 Elk Trail, Harrison´s Star, 13/2 Amir Pasha, 8/1 Victorias, 16/1 Bonny Bright Eyes, 20/1 Mardood, 33/1 Actabou, Zaurel, 66/1 Born To Frill.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Amir Pasha's debut effort entitles him to respect on adjusted RPR but he completely failed to confirm that on softer ground next time. La Fortalesa enters calculations but it would be no surprise to see recent Flat winner RIVER ARDECHE step up plenty on his previous hurdling form

soft ground and 2 market movers in River Ardeche and Zaurel into 14/1. The former would be of interest from a place only perspective 1.46 to place

140 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 4/5 Bomber Brown, 4/1 Bromhead, 9/2 Key Regard, 7/1 Kochanski, 14/1 General Sam, 50/1 Evette, Myshkin.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: A weak-looking maiden. Interesting to see what the market makes of Key Regard, but BOMBER BROWN is much better than he was able to show on his recent debut here and looks the one to beat

7 horse race here -3 clear outsiders leaving 4 fighting out 2 places with one stronjg market leader

CAUTION - maiden 1.31 place

235 CATTERICK would have been of interest with Minella Boys were it not for 2 16/1 type system bets (see if you can figure them out) - if these latter 2 give their running they could concievably knock Minella Boys out of the placings

245 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 5/4 Woolston Ferry, 4/1 My Sweet Georgia, 6/1 Cognac Boy, 7/1 Art Fund, 8/1 Spinight, 20/1 Cwmni, Nun Today, Wickedly Fast, 33/1 Patience Rewarded.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Interesting to see if the market expects the re-equipping of blinkers to prove the key to My Sweet Georgia, but the return to this trip will suit WOOLSTON FERRY (nap) who shaped encouragingly after a break in a Wolverhampton handicap on Sunday and has a good deal in hand according to adjusted BHA figures

Class 6 claimer - can we trust the market leader who has a hint of the price gapper about him 1.24 to place

650 WOLVES
BETTING FORECAST: 5/4 Harry Up, 15/8 Blue Tomato, 4/1 Albero Di Giuda, 12/1 Bluebok, 16/1 Honest Value, 25/1 Bahamarama, 66/1 Briery Blaze,

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: If Harry Up is left alone up front then he will be hard to peg back but BLUE TOMATO has more ability than most who run in this grade and can go well fresh so may be able to pick him up in the closing stages. Any money for the ex-Italian Albero Di Giuda would look significant.

8 runners originally down to 6 now - still 3 the place on BETFAIR?1.09 to place Blue TOmato is 1.17

if so then Harry Up remains strong at the head of the market

ONE A DAY

Tricky day today for me with some very poor race types and Harry Up, an obvious candidate, at a very crap price - chance perhaps on Blue Tomato at the higher price given 3 to place - my decision will be made nearer the off

Thursday 29 January 2009

29/1

Auld Arty won

130 TOWCESTER
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Carrickboy, 2/1 Neil Harvey, 4/1 Quentin Collonges, 8/1 King Stanley, 16/1 Cross Kennon, 25/1 Bagsy´s Bridge, 50/1 Badly Bruised, Formedable, Jolly Cooper, 100/1 All Fun And Games.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: NEIL HARVEY produced enough in bumpers to suggest he can bag a race of this nature over hurdles with conditions to suit. Carrickboy and Quentin Collonges are the obvious dangers.[BDO]
Towcester is bad enough at the best of times - and with heavy ground - well - YIKES!
Neil Harvey is of interest with course and distance form - 3 under 16/1
1.26 , 1.37 , 1.42 to place the front 3

240 WINCANTON
BETTING FORECAST: 1/5 Pride Of Dulcote, 11/2 Bakbenscher, 12/1 Song Sung Blue.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: b\PRIDE OF DULCOTE is very much on the up and this should present no problem if he shows anywhere near his best form.[

A 2 horse race now! 1.09 win only market

320 STHL
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Take Me There, 5/1 Ibrox, 6/1 El Diego, 8/1 Puy D´Arnac, 10/1 Calculating, Dart, 12/1 Aureate, My Friend Fritz, 16/1 Victory Quest.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: El Diego and Ibrox may have more to offer, particularly the latter now upped in trip, but TAKE ME THERE (nap) was well clear of the third home last time and looks sure to appreciate this extra distance. John Berry has quickly turned him out before he is reassessed and this looks a gilt-edged opportunity

Hint of a price gap here, but I really dont like middle distance races 1.34 - th only horse odds on in the place market

330 TOWC
BETTING FORECAST: 4/5 Silk Affair, 7/4 Bella Haze, 10/1 Lupita, Mrs Fawlty, 33/1 Ricci De Mare, Slickdalay, 50/1 Gouranga, 100/1 Space Queen.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: It's hard to look beyond SILK AFFAIR, whose form on Flat and over hurdles makes her stand out in this company with an age allowance to assist.[
4 outsiders - -and 2 priced to be involved BUT heavy ground and the venue may mean one of the front 2 underperforms - BUT which one? 1.13 and 1.19

340 WIN
BETTING FORECAST: 8/11 Princeful, 9/2 Spirit Of Man, 9/1 Moleskin, 12/1 James De Vassy, Orana Conti, 14/1 Beat The System, 20/1 The Arsonist, 40/1 Play A Cord, Southfield Hall, 100/1 Keepholdin.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Extra weight in these conditions are always going to be a concern but PRINCEFUL has achieved far more over hurdles than any of his rivals and looks much the safest option.[

Extra weight in heavy ground! 1.19

ONE A DAY

The key problem is heavy ground today. Towcester and heavy ground - the poor horses will be finishing knackered
Pirde of Dulcote at 1.09 has one horse to beat. Song Sung Blue remains and was originally 12/1 in the betting forecast to a 1/5 shot.
Heavy ground here and a bit of a mug bet in a 2 horse race but should win in a day where nothing appeals to me from a place only perspective

A no bet day for me but I will try to get my target profit per day using other means

I know it's a cup game, but 1.22 for Barcelona tonight? No heavy ground and NO killer hill like Towcester

Wednesday 28 January 2009

28/1

Inchdaly Rock 1st and Jokers legacy 2nd!

1250 NEWC
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Nelliedonethat, 6/1 Mistral De La Cour, 8/1 Neidpath Castle, Sound Of Cheers, 9/1 Dawn Ride, 14/1 Ballynure, 16/1 Mr Twins, Perly Spencer, 20/1 Star Of Raven, Stormont Dawn, Woodview, 25/1 Farne Isle, Ring Of Beara, Wee George, Whispering Moor.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Not many are sure to run their races and NELLIEDONETHAT should have plenty to offer unpenalised for his Musselburgh win, despite the very different conditions. Star Of Raven, lightly raced for her age and with Denis O'Regan booked, might be worth another chance despite a low-key return to action at Carlisle last month.

Price gap more pronounced in the live market 1.48 to place is suspiciously big for sch a price gapper

100 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 6/4 Auld Arty, 11/4 Flamsteed, 9/2 Marina Walk, 6/1 Hatman Jack, 12/1 Spiritual Healing, 16/1 The Winged Assasin, 25/1 Only Hope, 33/1 Uncle Brit, 66/1 Little Miss Ginger,

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: AULD ARTY is worth another chance given his progressive profile ahead of his latest run, and might just have too much speed for Flamsteed despite the trip promising to be as short as he wants. Marina Walk is an interesting newcomer.[GN]

Auld Arty 3 2nds already 1.25 to place

155 NEWC
BETTING FORECAST: 15/8 Whisky Magic, 9/2 Steady Tiger, 8/1 Waldo Winchester, 10/1 Best Lover, Dancing Dik, 12/1 Bee Sting, Mamba, 14/1 Baltic Pathfinder, Crackerjack Lad, 16/1 Solis, 20/1 Quatro Pierji, 33/1 Executive Xpress, Wednesdays Boy, 40/1 Work Boy, 50/1 Amulree, 100/1 Bromley Bay.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Bee Sting is a pretty useful recruit off the Flat and Steady Tiger had quite a reputation before suffering a setback, but WHISKY MAGIC (nap) got his hurdling career off to a flying start at Market Rasen and has decent prospects of following up in a race in which his stable is going for a hat-tric

Steady tiger quite a mover

225 LIMERICK

BETTING FORECAST: 1/2 Quiscover Fontaine, 9/2 Monty Blue, 7/1 Alice Bradys Call, 8/1 Porto Calero, 14/1 Thedancingdemon, 16/1 Doctor Scott, 20/1 Scenic Rush, 25/1 Atmywitsend, 33/1 Alderfield, Olympian Boy.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: QUISCOVER FONTAINE looks a cut above this opposition. Last season's Goffs Land Rover Bumper winner may ultimately need a bit further, but has coped admirably in his two outings over this trip since finishing third to On The Way Out on his hurdling debut in a 2m2f Fairyhouse event. The form of his Gowran maiden win was franked when runner-up Kandari landed the odds on his next start, and last month's course and distance win was shown in a good light when the consistent runner-up Alpine Eagle was seventh in the Pierse Hurdle.\n
Monty Blue looks second-best. The Overbury gelding has some fair form over 2m, i

Fav now 2/5 and hardened BUT heavy ground at Limerick

240 LING
BETTING FORECAST: 9/2 Hucking Hero, 11/2 L´Hirondelle, 6/1 Ocean Legend, 7/1 Paradise Dancer, Pegasus Again, 8/1 Torch Of Freedom, 10/1 Leonaldo, 12/1 Burnbrake, 14/1 Dinner Date, Dudley Docker, Napoletano.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Paradise Dancer might get things her own way here depending on how Pegasus Again is ridden, but whether she is in the form to take advantage must be debatable and it could be worth opposing her with the lightly raced L'HIRONDELLE. From a yard in great form, the sharper test promises to suit him and he could have too many guns for recent conqueror Ocean Legend round here.

Torch of freedom now 9/4 - quite a move

305 NEWC
BETTING FORECAST: 4/9 Door Boy, 11/2 What A Buzz, 14/1 Arctic Rock, 16/1 Witty Banter, 20/1 Presque Perdre, Quiqui De L´Isle, Tantobie, 25/1 Carrick Star, Mick Flavin, Mister Marker, 33/1 Classic Cut, 50/1 Silver Salvo, 66/1 Country Servant, 100/1 Castleroche, Ethel Briggs, 150/1 Paradigm Investor.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: What A Buzz hails from a stable in blinding form and may have further improvement to make but he meets DOOR BOY on 19lb worse terms than he would in a handicap and Howard Johnson's runner has to be the choice back at a more suitable trip after coming up short in a 2m Grade 2 last time

Big field for one so short

ONE A DAY
Chance on Auld Arty again to continue the placings and perhaps get his head in front

Tuesday 27 January 2009

27/1

Another easy place yesterday ( won infact!)

130 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 4/7 Qozak, 5/1 Nictory Vote, 10/1 Acapulco Bay, 14/1 Maille Abaa, Top Ticket, 20/1 Monsieur Cadou, Walamo, 25/1 Stage Acclaim, Sweet Optomist, 33/1 Sona Sasta, 50/1 The Flying Phenom, 66/1 Champagne Floozie, Sally Army, 100/1 Something Inside.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Paul Nicholls holds the key with QOZAK and Nictory Vote, with preference being for the former, who created a very favourable impression on his hurdle debut and, although going without the tongue-tie this time, he'll be hard to beat if reproducing that effort.

Nictory Vote a non runner making the fav 1/4 1.24 win and 1.08 place

200 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Tamadot, 5/2 Luxurix, 100/30 Special Envoy, 7/2 Muhtenbar, 66/1 Flag Flier, Moon Bear.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Special Envoy stands out on hurdles ratings but has plenty to prove at present, while the trip could be on the short side for Tamadot and Muhtenbar remains opposable. In the circumstances, chasing debutant LUXURIX may well be good enough to give Paul Nicholls a third win in four runnings of this race.[

6 horse race - 2 clear outsiders not for me - shortest priced is 1.61 to place

220 FOLK
BETTING FORECAST: 5/2 Plein Pouvoir, 4/1 Tolede, 9/2 Padalko, Teamgeist, 10/1 Apatura Dik, Valentia Island, 14/1 Knockarron, 16/1 American World, 25/1 Miss Fleur, 33/1 Walter.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Tolede, from a stable with a near 50% strike-rate here in recent seasons, and Teamgeist are worth watching closely in the betting after their absences but the one to beat on paper is PLEIN POUVOIR after a couple of creditable efforts in Newbury handicaps

Plein Pouvoir now 13/8 and backed 1.32 to place

230 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 2/5 Inchidaly Rock, 5/2 Jokers Legacy, 10/1 One Cool Knight, 50/1 Millarky, 66/1 Gone Cloudy, 100/1 Hiddensee, Irish Promise, Molly Coddle.

The straight 8 and only 3 horses sub 66/1 1.08 and 1.17 for Jokers legacy under McCoy

310 SOUTHWELL
BETTING FORECAST: 7/4 Dark Tara, 100/30 Efisio Princess, 4/1 Silk Gallery, 7/1 City For Conquest, 10/1 Milton Of Campsie, 12/1 Avoca Dancer, 22/1 Mac Dalia, 33/1 Martingrange Lass.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: DARK TARA and Efisio Princess make most appeal here with preference for the former who had several in-form rivals behind last time and is by a sire whose progeny have a decent record on Fibresand.[

8 runners down to 6 -still 3 the place? 1.36 , 1.32 , 1.35 to place the front 3 and still 3 the place

400 TAUNTON
BETTING FORECAST: 2/1 Larks Lad, 5/2 Aldertune, 3/1 Shalamiyr, 10/1 Dontsayathing, 14/1 Lilly Lane, Silver Accord, 25/1 Webberys Dream, 50/1 Kaftan Lad, 66/1 Camomile Green.
SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Larks Lad and Shalamiyr have cost their supporters plenty and are taken on with ALDERTUNE, who shaped with promise in a decent race on his debut

9 runners and 4 under double figure odds 1.18 , 1.34 , 1.84 to place

ONE A DAY
230 TAUNTON is stand out with 8 runners , 2 at 300/1 , 3 at 66/1 and the others 1/3 , 5/2 and 12/1
Quite obviously Inchidaly Rock is the one here at 1.08 but I think Jokers LEGACY SHOULD PLACE at 1.17 under McCoy

Monday 26 January 2009

26/1

Brave Inca won (and placed naturally!!)

100 KEMP
BETTING FORECAST: 13/8 Riverside Theatre, 9/4 Al Amaan, 100/30 Hector´s Choice, 7/1 Phoenix Ice, 10/1 Alflora Dora, 25/1 Rockjumper, 33/1 Allfortara, Dehanom, Shipboard Romance, 66/1 Balableu, 100/1 Farmers Cross, Lunces Lad, Marchand D´Argent, Owlsley, Peacefull Waters, Tecktal.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: AL AMAAN is going to appreciate further in time but this will be no test of speed given the conditions and he can make an immediate impact for his top team. Riverside Theatre is the standout danger and Hector's Choice, with his experience, can also figure in the finish

5 horses below 25/1 here in this 16 runner novices hurdle and the big boys are all represented
1.27 , 1.57 , 1.52 to place -
110 ludlow
BETTING FORECAST: 2/1 Bruslini, 100/30 Moment Present, 4/1 Torphichen, 9/2 Tayarat, 9/1 Ben Ami, 12/1 Loco Grande, 50/1 Arthurian, Jemiliah, Marino Prince, Miss Phoebe, 100/1 Asmodea, Emerald Crystal.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: BRUSLINI looked inexperienced when joint-favourite at Newbury on his hurdle debut after an absence this month, should put in a more polished performance here and looks the one to beat. The main form dangers are Moment Present and Tayarat, although the fairly useful Flat performer Torphichen would be very interesting if supported on his hurdle debut for a new yard.

Half the field are 50/1 or over - do if we acn wittle the remaining runners down , we could find a place only candidate

BETTING FORECAST: 11/10 Ainama, 6/4 Hebridean, 7/1 Pale Rider, 16/1 Morning Heights, 20/1 Buffalo Stampede, Pinnacle Point, Spanish Conquest, 25/1 Come On Jonny, 33/1 Nearby, 100/1 Haveyoubeen, He´s The Business, Intensifier, Northern Lad, Oddshoes, Where´s Susie, 200/1 Dancing Valentine.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Nicky Henderson has been making hay this winter with his hurdling debutants and AINAMA was good enough on the Flat to suggest he could have a bright future at this game. Hebridean is a higher-profile recruit but Newbury was quite disappointing, even allowing for the quality of opposition, and it could be that he'll need better ground in this discipline

Ruby V AP -jst like the old days! But who to chose? I don't like these top heavy markets because inevitably the one you chose is the one who unplaces while the other wins by 19 lengths!

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: GONE HUNTING, back at 6f here, looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to add to his tally. Tillers Satisfied may prove best of the rest

ONE A DAY

A tricky day today with soft ground at the jmps venues.
100 KEMP
All the big stables on the top 5 - Riverside Theatre short priced market leader -Al Amaan and Phoenix ice are debutants

110 LUDLOW - Bruslini? - Simply probability if the 50/1 shots run like outsiders

230 WOLVES - Gone Hunting - the straight 8 here so 3 the place

510 WOLVES - Obvious chance here and 1.08 reasonable for a 1/4 shot

I will go with 230 Wolves here today - smallest field size for 3 the place a fav who has been well backed - negatives? Race type
